Read this book By KMH The author states he is not writing a novel so don't expect this to read like a short story or anything on the Best Sellers list. It is the nuggets of great information that I gleaned while reading that made the most difference for me. I am no longer a skeptic. The earth is flat.

About the Author Thomas E. Davis, Ph.D., is Professor of Counselor Education at Ohio University, where he teaches in the areas of school and community counseling. He is the author of many journal articles and co-authored A Practitioner's Guide to Ethical Decision Making. He has given over 40 presentations at state and national conferences on the subject of professional counseling. Cynthia J. Osborn, Ph.D., is Assistant Professor at Kent State University, where she teaches applied and clinical courses in the Counseling and Human Development Service graduate program. Chuong Unlike most books related to the field of counseling, The Solution-Focused School Counselor addresses the biggest constraint of school counselors: TIME. While counselors have a vast assortment of theoretical approaches to incorporate into their practice, most theories assume an unlimited amount of time. Such is not the case within the fixed time that a counselor is given to handle an overwhelming number of students in each day.Solution-focused counseling is not a compilation of techniques, but rather a philosophy of how to approach students' problems. At the heart of solution-focused counseling is the concept of exceptionality: looking for instances when the problem does not exist, and then using those instances to formulate solutions. Therefore, the counselor's goal is to turn the attention away from the negative and to focus on what is positive. By jumping right into the solution-finding process, time is not wasted on investigating all the reasons that the problem exists (particularly reasons that may be out of the student's control).I would highly recommend The Solution-Focused School Counselor for both beginning and well-seasoned counselors. This book is direct, concise, and saturated with helpful suggestions to implement the Solution-Focused model into individual and group counseling, parent conferences, and teacher consultations.

Changing how we think and do By Amazon Customer Having surveyed the growing literature, Davis and Osborn have managed to provide a very succint, practical and up-to-date overview of Solution-focused counseling. Steve de Shazer and his wife, Insoo Kim Berg, first distilled the wisdom of Milton Erickson, psychiatrist and hypnotherapist, and developed a very influential school of interventions, without formal hypnosis, for the last 15-20 years. It is the change in perspective in developing new ways of thinking, believing and doing that is most valuable for any person. In contrast to traditional approaches, the focus is on the student's own competencies, strengths, possibilities and solutions. Counseling is structured and time limited. The goals are set jointly by the student and counselor, behavior-oriented, measureable, action-oriented... p. 44. Numerous specific strategies, such as highlighting exceptions, the classic "scaling question" of 1 to 10, that even surfaced in Woody Allen and other movies, the "miracle question", with the modified "dream question", the use of "instead", "coping questions", "relationship questions"... are all clearly summarised here. You also get a glimpse of applications of solution-focus to groups, parents, teacher-education and schools. This book is worth repeated study. The principles and strategies of the solution-focus perspective are not only useful for school counselors, but also for any person in daily life.

Ever Lee faced so many disappointments in her life, but she did not give up. Ever Lee did not want anyone to know that she was losing her sight. Ever Lee was a strong woman that was not defeated by anything. She overcame every challenge that was thrown her way; marriage, divorce and the loss of her sight…..Awesome story!!!

By Jackie Harrold What an inspiring, courageous journey, this book is a must read for anyone who thinks "it can't be done" because of the lack of sight or really any challenge. Ever never let an obstacle or the lack of sight prohibit her from setting and reaching her goals in life. She is so brave. I have had the pleasure of meeting her and she is a delightful person. By Karen Reading What a fabulous book.... the courage and inspiration of her journey...brought about both tears of sadness and of joy ...and also a few chuckles..I pretty much read it in one sitting. Altho I have known Evie for over 30 years there were things about her early childhood that I was not aware of....and always being amazed of her strength...this book just left me with even more admiration for her....if that is possible. As in the book.... and in real life...Evie never comes from an emotional place of lack of, blame, anger or resentment ...only from her heart and from love. I am honored and blessed to call her my friend .

BITTERSWEET By F.A. 4.5 STARSIt took me awhile to pick up this book and I had to reread the entire series once again.I think everything went well in the conclusion except for that tiny bit in the end. That was just so... I'm speechless, I had to take a breather because of that bittersweet ending. It's going to take me some time in order for me to move from this series. Just saying, their love for one another was just that strong that the ending move me to tears and while there was an epilogue, well, I craved for more.Although this is the final book of the series, the journey of Alyx still wasn't easy. The sacrifices that both she and Israel had to do. In a way, I do understand but I just never expected that.Still, this ending made me ball my eyes out but I loved it anyway.There character also improved since the last time and also the other side characters. And there were parts that I still loved about them that never changed.The things we wanted to know that haven't been answered yet were revealed here. Of course, I won't spoil them. You'd have to read it.Though I'm glad to read the end of Alyx journey and I'm glad that I was able to read this series. Please note that if you have not read the previous books in this series that there are minor unavoidable spoilers in this review. Alyx, Israel, Jordan, and the rest of the Freethinker community is on the run. They are looking for a place to lie low after the attacks on their community and the defeat of Samyara. But the reappearance of Ana, Lukas’s wife, who has lost her memory, starts telling them about an island of warriors, Alyx knows there’s no time to lose in stopping Michael. The question is can she stop him without losing any of her friends in the process?Alyx is every bit the bada– she’s been in every book of this series. She’s cunning and witty with a warrior’s heart. Nothing will stop her in defeating Michael and protecting Israel. Even when a friend betrays her in the worse way, possibly dooming them all, Alyx doesn’t stop fighting. Truly she is the Guardian that she’s denied being throughout the series.“You are my center, my balance, my sanity. My peace. I just need to be you and me. Just for a while. And I love his side story with Cleo, the prostitute from Purgatory.Overall, this book is it! It answers just about every question that comes up in the series and it ends leaving you sad but also content because you do get closure with this series, which I’ve been reading a lot of series enders recently and you don’t always get that. All the characters, some of the world building, it all comes to a head in the perfect way. Fair warning though have your tissues ready. This is a war and with war there’s losses and I wasn’t prepared for that at all!!! I cried my eyes out, not even going to joke about it!Personally I love the series, and while I thought this book started out a bit shaky, jumping from one POV to another quickly, it found it’s pace and I lost myself in the world of angels and war. While this book is billed as mature young adult (16+), I might go as far to say it’s new adult. There are some sexual scenes and references that I don’t think belong in young adult, but that’s my opinion. If you enjoy urban fantasy, angel mythology, and of course romance, I highly recommend it.

By A Customer This is a fine introduction to the prolific life and writings of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, the most important theologian of the 20th century. Chardin's theology, banned for years by the Vatican, was at least a hundred years ahead of it's time. A geologist, palenthologist, mystic, spiritual lover, he proposed that Darwin's theories of evolution were not contrary to God's revelation but actually was Revelation.King's book does a good job of detailing Chardin's life, his passions, his pursuits, his beliefs and his science. Though dry and slow at times, the author does help to illuminate the theology of someone who isn't easy to read. Though he lived a rich life, Chardin's writing can be somewhat cold and too scientific at times for the layreader to understand. This book, however, is good solid primer and should be the starting point for anyone interested in a man ahead of his time.

The Universe And Mankind Are Both Evolving Towards Perfection By Peter Kenney Ursula King's biography of Teihard de Chardin is a fascinating book written in a style which makes a difficult subject seem quite understandable. King weaves the story of Teihard's life around snapshots of his constantly maturing vision of God, the universe and mankind.Known for his original concepts such as the ongoing evolution of both the universe and mankind towards perfection and the existence of a global network of self-awareness, Teihard was always regarded as a loose canon by the Vatican. Consequently, not much of his work was released during his lifetime except for those relatively few items which were privately published and distributed among a circle of his friends. Since his death in 1955 all his books and essays have been made available to the general public. Teihard nurtured close, supportive relationships with a small number of caring females and left many letters which reveal the importance of these women in his life.Although at times he is difficult to comprehend, there is no doubt that Teihard ranks as one of the most prominent thinkers of the twentieth century. The fact that he is recognized as a famous and respected scientist as well as a mystic, greatly increases his significance.

Chardin is someone who has touched my heart deeply from the time I first heard about him many years ago. I was fascinated by the few things I heard about his philosophy and theology. I also hear a lot of new-age citations of him that sound like foolishness. His only work that I read with understanding was "Mass on the World." This short piece was a window into a beautiful soul. Ms. King's work is a sweeping and breathtaking panorama of his life and thought. Her observations are well documented with quotes and pictures of his life and works. I am particularly impressed with how she honors his fidelity to the church's magisterium and his vows. I read this book in three segments. I had to pause to absorb the magnitude of what I read and experienced. The first part was his early life ending with his service in WWI. I remain astounded at his bravery and his complete experience of all the most horrible battles of that war. I do wish the author had made clearer what bored him about the study of Thomas Aquinas. Was he reading poor presentations of Thomas' thought or what problem did he see in Thomas. At his time in Fr. Chardin's life, Thomas was being resurrected by fellow jesuits, one of them, Henri de Lubac, was a close friend. Also J. Maritan and E. Gilson were active. The second segment was his life's work and exile to China. I remain amazed at the energy he gave to science and writing. A powerful mind was at work to make sense of what he learned. I was exhaused reading of his exploits. The third segment was his closing years and his infirmimity. This was a prayerful reading. I was especially touched by his words to a friend, "I always feel God's presence now." The only shortfall I'm seeing in Fr. Chardin's life work is how to get where he saw the need to go. How to learn how I can best make Christ present. Too many new-agers have co-opted Fr. Chardin to make us think we can pull ourselves up by the bootstraps to evolve to the next age. All evolution is in God's Providence. This book really brought Fr. Chardin to life and helped me understand his meaning and message. Another title that brought Fr. Chardin to life is "For the Time Being" by Annie Dillard. Read and Enjoy.

By alwaysbooking 5 “I’ve got this” stars!!Reading a Jill Shalvis book is like eating a whole pan of brownies without the calorie guilt! you get all the good feelings with no negative effects to your thighs!!! I have never met a Jill Shalvis book I didn’t like. I don’t think I ever will! Her characters are chopped full of real life quirks. You never know what kind of situations her heroes or heroines will get into.Zoe has this constant saying throughout the book and it’s “I got this”. She has had to be everyone’s everything for so long, now that her siblings are finally on track she starts to do things for herself. First off she wants to find a man so of course the book starts off with Zoe going on a blind date with a dentist. She decides to be daring and bold and kiss the dentist after she opens the door. However it’s not the dentist she kisses its her brother’s best friend Parker. She has never met Parker before this moment but Wyatt talked her into letting him stay with her while he’s in town. Of course this tension between them is broken by her dog Oreo (whom I loved). Oreo doesn’t like men however when Parker shows up he climbs all over him. You should always take hints from your pets about people, they are good judges of character. Not only does Zoe have to live with the incredibly attractive Parker while he’s on “vacation” she is technically working with him by flying him over some interesting areas in Idaho. She is fighting her attraction for him. Zoe keeps repeating to herself that he isn’t staying but of course her heart doesn’t want to believe it. I mean seriously how is she supposed to resist a man who kisses and rescues kittens for goodness sakes. I really enjoyed Jill Shalvis throwing in the beginning with Oreo about how he rolls in bear poop. Reminds me of another dog… maybe Jill’s dog?? that was so funny.Parker is chasing bad guys. These bad guys do not play nice they will use anyone or anything against him. So far he has stayed pretty well hidden. His attraction to his roommate Zoe is immediate, however he’s not going to let anyone distract him from catching this bad guy. Technically Parker is on leave after being run over literally by the bad guys. He’s gotten orders from higher ups that he’s not to go after this guy. So as a normal stubborn man what does he do…. he goes after the guy. For some reason he finds himself actually being honest with Zoe. The only thing he fibs to her about is the home improvements he’s doing while she’s at work. It’s so funny when she starts realizes he’s doing this. Then he “saves” some kittens.. big tough guy saves tiny kittens insert *swoon* here.I really enjoyed this book, it was almost like they were a married couple before they were a couple. They lived together they worked together always around each other. They raised the dog together then the kittens. I loved how she was attempting to date while he was living with her. The old lady dress is a classic, I feel it should be like the sisterhood of the traveling pants and go to the next lucky lady in line! Parker’s sister Armory was a delight I hope she comes to visit them soon. I really hope to see this couple in the future animal magnetism books.All of these books can be read as standalone books even though previous characters come into play. :)

Like pack her up and keep her in my pocket lovvvvvveeee her. She is just the right amount of silly, sweet, smart and sassy. It’s easy to see how she kept Darcy and Wyatt on track in their younger years. Zoe is struggling to re-enter the dating pool. With her siblings finally out from underneath her she has run out of excuses for not putting herself first. Sounds easy right? Not so much. Ms. Shalvis brings in her trademark humor and sets Zoe on a course of unfortunate encounters that will leave you in stitches.Parker is giving Adam a run for his money in the sexiest AM Man contest. Yum, yum, double yum. I wanted to relive each and every one of his delectable smiles. Where Zoe seems like an open book, Parker is a mystery. As their story progresses I saw Parker evolve. Tears, fur and snow all point to Parker’s huge heart. I thought his backstory was timed and developed perfectly.When personal relationships and work further entwine Parker and Zoe, they are faced with hard decisions. Do they follow their hearts into the unknown or do they continue on the path that has always come easy to them. You’ll have to read to find out.It’s a testament to Shalvis’ writing that the adorable Oreo and Bonnie and Clyde don’t completely steal the show. Her use of animals as secondary characters is brilliant. Their presence is always propelling the story and revealing traits about the characters effortlessly. All I Want is a must read. It delivers on every level ~ great story, suspense, sex, humor and characters that are simply irresistible.

It wasn’t too long ago that I binge-read the first six books in the series back-to-back so to say I’m not ready for the series to end is a massive understatement. The small-town charm of Sunshine, Idaho and the quirky characters (animals included) that inhabit it are what make this series so engaging. While I’d love to continue the journey with these characters in this setting for another dozen or so books, I was thrilled to see the series end on a high note with Zoe and Parker’s story in All I Want. Watching the stubbornly independent Zoe go toe to toe with the irresistibly charismatic Parker is so entertaining, it’s impossible not to fall in love with these characters.As a fan of the series, I’ve been waiting for Zoe’s story, eager to see who could be a perfect match for the tough-as-nails pilot. Zoe is a heroine that I immediately liked, yet the more I got to know her, exploring her guardedness and unveiling her vulnerabilities, the more I connected with her character. She is a fascinating mix of strong and vulnerable, self-assured and awkward, and I loved the fact that Parker challenges her with every word exchanged and every interaction. Parker is the kind of confident that makes you want to roll your eyes after every outrageous remark, even while his unerring charm has you fighting back a smile. They have this Katherine Hepburn-Carey Grant type of banter, each with the distinct ability to exasperate the other with a few choice words, yet at the same time, it's evident that they're wildly attracted to each other. Their dynamic brought a fast-paced energy to the story that captivated me from start to finish.With action, adventure, an unforgettable romance, and two characters with emotionally compelling backstories, All I Want is the perfect conclusion to the Animal Magnestism series. I laughed, I cried, I swooned (because: hot), and mostly, I wished it wouldn't end. No matter how many books I read by Jill Shalvis, I can't seem to get enough and All I Want is no exception. There's a feeling her books evoke – a feeling of lightheartedness and contentment so magical that you can’t help but want to recapture it again and again.
