Since I began writing this book I have been on a literal, physical journey of faith that has had me walk the length and breadth of Scotland, sharing the gospel, praying for my nation, proclaiming the promises of God, meeting and talking to all kinds of people on the road. This is their story as well as my own. I had intended writing two books, one - a challenge to fellow believers and the other a journal, telling the story of my ‘Walk of the Ancient Path.’ However, it is now my conviction that I am to merge the two into one. In all honesty I have questioned my credibility in writing this as most books are written by the famous, successful or influential, not ‘unknowns’ but it is a key aspect of this narrative - that GOD wants to use ‘unknown’, ordinary people like you and I. I hasten to add that although this book refers a lot to Scotland and its ‘spiritual climate’, it is by no means restricted to Scotland and is relevant to any nation experiencing a decline in sound biblical values and the erosion of the true Christian Faith. Despite the recent furore in Scotland around the Independence vote and subsequent General Election, I am convinced the answer for Scotland and the UK is not a political one, but a spiritual one: REVIVAL! My walk (over 800 miles), took me from the most northerly community in Unst, North Shetland, through the Shetlands, Orkney, across to the mainland, down from Gills Bay and John O Groats to the most southerly point of Scotland (Mull of Galloway), and then from the west - Barra, North Uist, Skye and across mainland Scotland, finishing in Peterhead on 21st December 2013. My experiences during these eight months have only confirmed and magnified my conviction; SCOTLAND NEEDS JESUS. I emphasise that the examples, testimonies and stories I share are predominately from my own personal life, especially during my walk so please forgive me if it seems I am constantly referring to myself, my sincere purpose is to glorify GOD and point people to Jesus, encourage you the reader to be active in sharing your faith and hopefully be a catalyst for other evangelists. I am hoping and praying this book comes from a real and true heart of love and concern for the Church and, moreover for the ‘lost’ of our generation. It may, at times, seem contentious but the contention is not with you or with any church or denomination, I have as much issue with myself about the things I share here within these pages. Having spent eleven years as a missionary to Russia before planting and pastoring a church here in Scotland for twelve years, I confess that I have had a my own personal struggle with our Western form of Christianity. Having worked with pastors in the former Soviet Union who had their children removed from their homes because of their parent’s faith or the parents arrested and imprisoned for simply having faith in Christ or owning a Bible, the battle that many ministers here in the UK have with their flock choosing the ‘Sunday Car boot Sale’ over the House of God is pitiful! If you are easily offended, you may want to put this book away – it may not be for you. But, if like me you want answers to our desperate situation, sit down with me and let’s with candid heart and soul, have a straight and honest look at ourselves. It is my prayer that if we do, God will speak to us both and somehow we will find back-bone to stand up, put on our spiritual armour and get out into the fray for the souls of men, women and children in our nation, to take our ‘spiritual’ swords out of their polished scabbards and dare to get them battered as we go out together into the cosmic war for the glory of God and the souls of men. As Jesus said; ‘Do you not say, 'Four months more and then the harvest'? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.’ (John 4:35) God Bless You! It is filled with personal testimony from a man with an honest heart before The Lord. It is filled with scripture in context which makes it all the more applicable to our life in today's world and gives the reader hope and joy for the future. There were passages where I laughed and others where I cried, but it's content is wholesome and down to earth and I am re-reading portions of it right now. Thank you Brother Malcolm and may God richly bless you daily.

Almost all the photos are excellentI first saw his work in the book on lions and got this one as well.There is some overlap in photos but not much.I have not checked my identifications, so sorry if I got it wrong. Flicking back and forth between several Kindle books and the review page makes things difficult.The book is mainly photographs with some brief text.The book follows the Great Migration-- as do many othersTable of Contents ( there is no direct access.to the chapters and no obvious search function-- I was not troubled by this. I just enjoyed the excellent photos.Most animals, birds and reptiles are not named. There are photos Ngorongoro Crater and Olduvai Gorge along with the more usual ones of this Savannah.There are several good photos of sunsetsAnimals and Birds and a few reptiles.Many of the animals are familiar , and in familiar situations.However the photographer seems to be able to invest an element of interest and curosity into the photos.I don't know where to start as there was a lot I likedThe life cycle.One sees males fighting for dominance, mating and mothers with young.The fight for dominance range from the smaller antelope, to Wildebeest , Buffalo, Giraffes, to Rhnos etc.One sees moderate size antelope mating along with Wildebeest and lions. On the whole mating is fast as a predator may well attack.There is an excellent set of photos of mothers with young-- this was a real treat for me.The elephant shots were wonderful. There are various antelope with young and I think an Impala crèche-- the best photo I have of this -- you see the young and the crèche mothers who anxiously scan for predatorsThere is good coverage of Hyaenas in general and also of a female outside a den with a young cub-- about 3-4 months ( they are black at birth and start to develop their spots at about 4 months-- this was also shown ( one of the best shots I have of this side of hyaena life.,There are several photos of female hippos with a very small hippo and a slightly older one.Lion Cheetahs and there Cubs are shown, and I could go onThe big cats.Lions well covered but see his other book where the coverage is better.Cheetah Coverage is reasonableGood coverage of leopards, both on the ground and up a tree-- I don't remember seeing Cubs.Hyaenas see aboveZebra good coverage. I like to see zebra families-- there is a group of several families at a rivers edge --they need to cross-- you see the stallions with there mares with or without young.there is tension as the families work out where it is safest to cross. For me a wonderful photo. Others were also goodElephants. A range of wonderful photos-- yes, everyone has similar photos but I really like this selection.Includes a photo of the calf drinking from the mammary glands (that are between it's mother's front legs) Good photos of matriarchs and there families-- some just mother and several of her relatively young family , others bigger groups.Birds.My bird recognition is poor. There are a number of excellent photos of both small and large birds, I think some with chicks.There is a group of Ostriches and several photos of FlamingoReptiesCrocodiles in and out of the waterChameleon etcThe Great Migration.Nothing new but well covered. There are a number of good books that are just in paperback etc.There are excellent WILDguides on East Africa-- These cover both animals and birds.I have reviewed a few as have many others. They have an excellent photo, identifation features, distribution map, a brief note on animal behaviour and conservation status. WILDguides is one word with wild in capitals and guide in small case. The whole series is well worth considering.I really like Cand M Stuart's various guides-- just make sure that you get the latest edition. There is a book on the mammals of East Africa.The WILDguides cover the birds well-- a topic I am currently working onReptiles -- my only books relate to Southern Africa.For me looking at photos gets me reading about animals and animal behaviour. This has been well worth the time from my point of view.I even bought 1-2 large academic studies on the migration and am slowly working my way through " the Gnu's World" R Estes ( Gnu is another name for Wildebeest.) I would only recommend it if you really like very long academic texts ( I studied medicine ) .

The harsh realities of what it took to become a part of the "Greatest Generation," as can only be told by someone who lived it. As of 2015, we are losing our amazing WWII veterans, like Ray Parker, at a rate of 1 every 3 minutes. Much later in life Ray realized that he needed to share his story with the country that he so fiercely battled for, for himself, and for all the other men and women who gave their courage, sacrifice and love selflessly for their country.

8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. A Reading Pleasure By Christopher H. Isensee My wife and I had been waiting for this book since we saw the campanion DVD,In Times of War, a year ago. It was well worth the wait; we found ourselves with Ray Parker in a lumbering B-24, and went with him into a German prisoner of war camp. This vicarious experience was enhanced by a number of actual photographs. Those who can remember World War II will find this easy reading book a nostalgic journey. Those who do not will come to appreciate why the men and women who fought and died in World War II are called our Greatest Generation.

If you have any doubts about what our "Greatest Generation" accomplished during the dark days of World War II, this story lays them all to rest. Told in a way that makes you feel like you are sitting beside him for the whole incredible ride, Mr. Parker reveals his tale with a sense of realness and humbleness that makes you truly understand how "everyman" our soldiers, flyers, and sailors were (and are!). He packs it with humor and love, with fear and gratitude - with awe at his luck of cheating death many times over, but also with the pain of watching so many die needlessly. After reading this story I am in awe of him and how he always found the courage to do "what had to be done." Ray Parker is definitely a national treasure, and I for one am very happy that he is sharing his story.

Kept me very interested all the way through and gave me an insight of what these real men had to face in such horrific times. I highly recommend this book. Ray you are a very brave and talented man, and deserve to have many people buy your book.

James Gilchrist Swan (1818 –1900) was an American Indian agent in what is now Washington state, U.S.A., who is known for his work collecting artifacts and for writing the first ethnography of the Makah tribal group, among whom he lived. The object of the author of this book,is to give a general and concise account of that portion of the northwest coast lying between the Straits of Yreca and the Columbia River, a region which has never otherwise attracted the explorers and navigators, since the times of Meares and Vancouver, sufficiently for them to give more than a passing remark. A great merit in the author, and one which gives additional value to his work is, that so far as possible, he relates only such circumstances as came under his own immediate observation. He lived With the Cherooks, Chehalis, and two other tribes of Indians, and what he relates of their manners and customs, will be read, as indeed most of the work, with interest. The three years of Mr. Swan's residence in Washington, terminated in 1855. This Territory, numbering in 1857 a population of only about fifteen thousand, is, by nature, one of the finest countries in the world; its climate is far milder than that of the same latitude east of the Mountains; though mountainous to a great extent, it has an abundance of prairies and valleys, with a soil of inexhaustible fertility; its forests are the noblest in the world; its mineral resources are rich and varied; its harbors are the safest on the Pacific coast; its navigable Bays and Rivers are numerous, and stocked with every variety of fish; and the best whaling “grounds” in the Pacific are off its coast. The two or three concluding chapters of the volume, on the conduct of our Government in treating with the Indians, and on the history, character and policy of the Hudson Bay Company, are specially valuable. A considerable part of the volume is taken up with an account of the frontier life of the author, fishing, hunting, traveling, &c, and mostly in the neighborhood of Shoal-Water Bay; and with the incidents of his experience in that new country. The author, however, is better at telling a story, than in playing the philosopher; and he ought to have known that the theories of Nott, and Gliddon, and Agassiz, on the origin of the Indian races, are as foreign to Science and Reason as they are to Revelation. But the book is both readable and valuable. This book originally published in 1857 has been reformatted for the Kindle and may contain an occasional defect from the original publication or from the reformatting.

An old book worth reading for many reasons By Korrigan I suppose it is pretty silly to review a book of this age, but I loved it so much it's going on my list of books worth reviewing.The language is wonderful and it's hard to believe that someone with such a range of interests and writing ability would be found in the ranks of the pioneers.

Clarke This is a wonderful account by an early pioneer in Washington Territory that shows how unnecessary conflict was with the Indians of the area. Filled with personal accounts of adventure, life on the frontier, and friendship with Indians, it's a great read and a great resource.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. "Boston" Man Does Good By Mike Movius James Gilchrist Swan wrote an amazingly interesting and detailed account of his years in Willipa Harbor. The origin of some modern place names, I.e., Tokeland became very clear, for example. His treatise on the nature of Native Americans is especially significant, as is his description of their languages.I especially liked his analysis of how the Hudson Bay Company's strategy to get along with the native people was compared with Governor Stevens' botched treaty proposition along the banks of the Chehalis.Swan was an interesting man in his own right: pioneer, scientist, Indian agent, teacher, revenue agent, probate judge, cultural and natural historian and adventurer. He is buried in an unpretentious grave in Port Townsend, Washington.

Although law enforcement organizations have been known to mentor others throughout the community, historically, mentoring activities within the organization have not been as popular. Other types of organizations have shown a benefit when formal mentoring programs comprised of organizational employees were pursued. Due to the distinctive nature of law enforcement organizations that encourage self-preservation and individualistic behaviors as well as high rates of psychopathology, it is probable that there are stigmas related to anyone considered an outsider (Dowling, Genet, Moynihan, Cournos, & Goldfinger, 2005). These stigmas are potentially linked to the debatable high arrest rates of the mentally ill. Thus, this study sought to identify a possible connection to a lower arrest rate of the mentally ill by those law enforcement officers who were trained by Field Training Officers who were proficient in the mentoring skills identified by Kouzes and Posner's (1992) five leadership practices.

This book was certainly the best choice! The main thing that I learned from the cases that the author explains is that without evidence, the authority can’t blame any suspect, and that’s the reason many of this cases remain unsolved. The author is a fantastic writer, and I want to keep reading about this subject.

This one starts to make good on Edgar's contract, with his "introduction" to a few members of the crew.The dialogue (read chiefly as "dirty talk") in this piece is easily my favorite part, so I especially enjoyed the very end. If there's more, I hope to see more interactions between Edgar and the twins! Their characters are very intriguing, and a nice contrast to the sharpness of the rest of the pirates

I liked this book a ton By Erin I liked this book a ton, especially how it was often concise, but some parts seemed to drag on forever while I was reading them. It provided tons of information on Fraternities, but since it advertised Sororities in the headline, I wish it would've gone more in dept with them for the girls out there... or maybe a sequel/companion book for the girls looking for Sorority information? Overall, the book was fantastic and had trons of information. I got this the second after I finished the first book.A very good sequel to the first book. If you loved the first, in all its suspenseful and unsettling yet enlightening glory- you will like the sequel. Wish there was a book for each haunting season-- can't wait to see any of Tamera's future works.

Couldn't Put It Down By Sandy Beach Recommend this to anyone looking for true crime book, hard to read in parts because of disturbing details of the crime, I had to skip a page here and there because it was so confronting but worth reading to follow the awesome police work that bought this creep to justice.

One was a decent person and the other only pretended to be. It was a tragedy waiting to happen. The forensics will blow you away!

Paul Williams gets an A-plus for organization and documentation in this outstanding report.
