1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Am I the only one that didn't love Niko? By PRBabe5 Alright, alright, he grew on me a little. I still don't like his walking away from Theodocia, but I understand him a little better. Although truthfully, not sure he would be good father material so walking away was probably the best thing he could have done for her. He's a killer. I understand that is part of what he does for a living, but he ruthlessly and without regret killed people. And when he gets chosen for a new career, he jumps right in without thinking about the consequences. At different turns throughout this book, I wanted to reach in and slap some sense into him.Strangely, maybe because unlike everyone else I didn't romanticized him, this one seemed longer than the others. It was very good, yet I was ready for it to be over. That is not to say that I don't want to learn what happens with Niko in the future book, but that he wasn't one of my favorite characters.

So as he grew up he became violent and used to sleep with a bunch of women. He likes weapons and was trained in martial arts. There was never any love in his life until Theodocia came into it. He fell hard for her.He trained to become a Gladiator. So atleast he could send her money because he felt unfit to be a Dad. When Theodocia left it broke his heart. "I will always love her and hate her for showing me what love is." Will the road of the Gladiator lead him to where he wants to be or is it setting him up for more trouble. Will he find a way back to his "Dosy" or not?This book 6 in a miniseries setting up for the Omega series coming out in October. They are all super short but super good

Without Theodocia in his life, Niko has nothing else to focus on but his goal to become a sponsored Olympian. Being recruited as the youngest fighter in the Gladiator guild, he is undoubtably a fierce warrior but it's his emotions that are now in turmoil. Niko has never had an easy life coming from a turbulent, dangerous and chilling childhood where each day was a fight to survive. So when Niko found the arena, he realized it was the one place to let out his rage with no remorse. The only catch to his complete dream is Niko's new benefactor, Cleon, has a job for him, which may lead him down a new plan that could end any chances with Theodocia. Overall, another great backstory. Niko is a torchered soul; his need for power and money all stems from his haunting childhood. It's a dark short story and Niko's past that keeps him from believing in a hopeful future. I really hope he doesn't do too many dark deeds that end up keeping him away from Theodocia and his child, but I'll just have to wait to read and see.------Read more of my reviews at: http://heyitwasfree.blogspot.com/------

When we went to South Vietnam, I could go to the front line to fight the enemy, but I couldn't ride on the front of the bus, illegal in south. Draftee were ordered to join the armed forces, most of the men were from the south and southwest. President Kennedy had asked fellow Americans, asked not what your country can do for you but asked what you can do for your country. We were all drafted by him. No one knew for certain if this was the start-up that change the prejudiced of the country. I believed that we want to serve our country and would overlook our own prejudices in order to serve. We were together all of time in training and fellowship, on and off duty. We would overcome culture and ethnic differences. The army had a timetable set to get this division in the war in Vietnam (First Cavalry Airmobile) .So the training was very hard and fast. This was the first time helicopters would be used to fight in a battle. The battalion commander Col. Moore had us well train and disciplined. By the fellowship we had became brothers before going to Vietnam. After fifty years, we still go together; we meet once a year. We would need this brotherly love to fight for each other in the bigger battle of the war. In combat, you don't have time to think about what you are doing; you just do it. Your training takes over. How do you pray in a time like this when your mind is gone so fast, you can't think?

Blindsight By Angie Elle Thank you to Adriane Leigh for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.Blindsight is a tough book to review, because to be honest, I’m still not sure what the hell happened. What makes it difficult right off the bat is that I never really connected with either character, but I’m not sure I was meant to. (At least not yet.) Secrets abound in this book that even the reader isn’t privy to. That makes it nearly impossible to get to know who you’re reading about, and the whole experience makes the reader feel disconnected.The story is interesting. As far as we know, Hunter takes erotic photos for a living, and Erin is down on her luck in desperate need of a job if she wants to remain in her current living situation. Hunter offers her a job as his PA, solving that problem. But working with him brings a whole slew of new ones, including an attraction she isn’t ready for. Erin is unable to resist Hunter’s advances, and they embark on a relationship of sorts where neither really knows the other one. There were some intimate scenes here, but because of the detachment I felt toward the characters, it lacked the steam I was hoping for. As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that of the two, Hunter seems to have a closet that has more skeletons than a graveyard. The book ends on a cliffhanger, but not the one you think it’s going to be.So here’s the thing – this book is part of a serial, and I reserve the right to change my rating once I’ve read all three parts. I’m hopeful that this is all going to come together in a way that wows me. Wild by this same author is one of my go-to reads when I want a dirty talking hero, and his book started off like this one. Not plot-wise, but Wild was full of secrets, particularly on the heroine’s side, and it took a while before the characters warmed up enough to each other to be themselves, and that one ended up being a huge win for me. I’m really not sure where this series is going, so I’m going to cross my fingers and trust the author on this one.This review was originally posted at Badass Book Reviews.

By Somersjjs From the prologue, I expected to go into something so different then what I was reading, that I could not stop. The prologue was a tease and had to find out how this tied into what I was reading. It starts about a woman that was needing to find a better paying job, other than the internet job she was doing. She's on her way to an appointment, she arrives late, missing it. She runs into a man, and through talking he finds out she's looking for a job, he hands her his card, telling her to call him for a job. She calls, meets with him, taking the job. Turns out he's a photographer of expicit pictures. During the interview she suspects that he is olding back something. They travel to exotic places for him to photograph models, on short notice, to her (giving her 30 minutes to get ready.)She feels an attraction to him but it develops more to sexual. He holds back from sex even though, at times, they sleep in the same bed.During the time I started reading it drew me in and made me wonder how the prologue fit with the story. I had to read through the night to get answers to a lot of my questions.l My most wanted answer came the last few chapters of the boo which ends in a cliffhanger. Now I have to read the next book to have even more questions answered, but that's OK as I need to know.. The is a trilogy. The next book is to be released November 2015.The draw, of the story is what kept me in suspense and reading to find the answers to my questions. I usually don't read suspense, unless the story can grab my curosity within the first chapter or two, which between the prologue and the first two chapters I had so many questions that I had to find out what was going to happen with the characters. I still have so many more questions and hope for the next book in a few weeks.If you are intrigued, as I was, I encouraged you to read the book.

No flow from one paragraph to the next. I bet this would be improved tremendously if it was edited by a good editor, & made into one book, not 3, as I just found out.. Grrrr!!

The Lettres provinciales (Provincial letters) are a series of eighteen letters written by French philosopher and theologian Blaise Pascal under the pseudonym Louis de Montalte. Written in the midst of the formulary controversy between the Jansenists and the Jesuits, they are a defense of the Jansenist Antoine Arnauld from Port-Royal-des-Champs, a friend of Pascal who in 1656 was condemned by the Faculté de Théologie at the Sorbonne in Paris for views that were claimed to be heretical. The First letter is dated January 23, 1656 and the Eighteenth March 24, 1657. A fragmentary Nineteenth letter is frequently included with the other eighteen.

Excellent Read; Humorous and Insightful By Dean Brown This series of letters by Blaise Pascal has it all; humor, a good guy (Pascal) and bad guys (Jesuits), and a moral.Pascal wrote these letters in defense of his Jansenist friends who were being branded as heretics by the Jesuits. At the time, the Jesuits were a powerful religious order who basically taught Christianity all over the world.In the Provincial Letters, Pascal exposes and ridicules the doctrines of the Jesuits, especially the "doctrine of probable opinions". The Jesuits (supposedly) were attempting to update the Christian doctrine to satisfy the lax morals of the modern world. In an attempt to "widen the pipe" to heaven, the Jesuits developed "modern" church doctrine (while ignoring traditional church doctrine, and the scriptures) to compensate for societies lax morals.Pascal, defender of the faith, effectively ridicules their doctrines and shows their errors.A word of caution, the letters are difficult going with respect to discussions on the finer theological points of view (how far we have fallen regarding knowledge of our faith). A good introduction will orient the reader to the conflicts and provide information regarding many of the theological discussions (the edition I used did not have an introduction; this one may). However, Pascal's writing is so humorous and engaging that I continued reading even when I was lost in the argument.I am on record (in another review) as stating that religion should be updated to reflect our modern view of the world. However, these letters point out the danger of attempting to do that. I need to reconsider that approach.

By Jeremy Myers - Writing at RedeemingGod Using high irony, detailed research, and quoations from his opponents in their own words, Blaise Pascal wrote eighteen letters in France during the Seventeenth century attacking some of the moral abuses and laxities of the Jesuit priests. While his letters were widly distributed and read, the letters were condemned by the King and by the Pope as heresy, before later, after reforms were enacted, being praised by a later king and later Pope.The style and content is very similar to Soren Kierkegaard's Attack Upon Christendom.Though irony is not often used today as a method for theological inquiry and challenge, I would love to see it implemented more, as it makes for great reading while at the same time making powerful and pointed thelogical critiques of one's opponents.

My background as a descendant of Nebraska farmers made me ready to follow an amazing life from start to elder time. In our world of nuclear families, it is refreshing and inspiring to see how the concept of family helped form our country. Follow Delores' life, multiply the story by thousands struggling to survive in a brutally hostile environment and you will truly understand how the West was won.

The life changing moment of the car accident is how the book starts and I loved knowing that huge piece of information right up front. Although my cold heart may have dripped a little emotion it was written very well. It grabs your attention right off the bat and demands that you read it in one sitting (like I did.)Kristy and Stacy have a beautiful story and I think the fact that it is the Authors story makes it almost hard to read at times. I just wanted to jump into the book and give Stacy a HUGE hug.1 I’ve been through the death of a friend myself at a very young age and it the hardest thing ever and it never goes away. Death keeps a friend at the age they died for life, even in your memories as you grow older.I gave this book 4 StarsMy heart ached for these friends because I know the pain that goes with losing someone in a tragic way. Stacy has kept Kristy a part of her own story her whole life and I have no doubt that Kristy is with her every single day. Friendship and life changes By Kristi This great a read about two young women who were polar opposites but stayed best friends across the miles after one of them moved out of state. Both young women had life challenges, but of different magnitudes. While returning from a trip to find housing at the same college, a tragic accident occurred that left only one survivor who would then endure loss, heal physically and move forward with her own life of finishing college, starting a career and finding love.

The Ultimate Sportsman By George Briggs Roger Bannister accomplished what very few can even imagine - breaking the 4 minute mile record in 1954 and then dedicating himself in the medical discipline of neurology. His autobiography reveals a gifted athlete, a decent and caring family man, and one who keeps giving back to his beloved England thru medicine and sport. The success of Britain in the 2012 London Olympics is a testament to his legacy.

As a middle-distance runner in my youth, I was fascinated by the story of a medical student chasing the 4-minute mile.The content of the first half of this book overlaps with his earlier book (The Four-Minute Mile), which I had read years ago and enjoyed covering that ground again. I could almost hear the crunching sound of a cinder track beneath spiked shoes as Bannister described his races. The second half is equally interesting and fills in the details of life after his career as a runner. If you long for the days when sports was not a mega business and are a fan of running, you may find this book a real treat. Bannister's love for sport and the role it can play in a healthy, happy society is very clear and -- to me -- inspiring, especially as we see more and more youth dropping out of physical activity because they can't make the elite teams in school. I realize that I have not added any content to what you have already read in the description of the book, except for my thorough enjoyment of getting to know Sir Roger better. He's worth meeting.

My father bought and I read as a teenager The First Four Minutes. His medical experiences also interested me as a physician. Also training I was exposed to the superb teaching of Dr Bannister. A well written and interesting book for me.

I just didn't get that most of them were virgins that didn't received a smooth encounter. All of the acts were taken in some sort of violent way from the back. No smooth, easiness into the position even though they were taboo situations. No tenderness is what I really wanted to convey over to the author. It was not bad writing or even the ideas just that.

Ok - Too Many Distractions By TJ7109md Uri and Val's story overall was entertaining but my annoyance is the bad editing which results in an rocky read. Val's behavior at times was just irritating- I thought the author did a mediocre job on her character since there was no real balance between her being a deadly assassin and the damaged young women. The other annoyance is when secondary characters get introduced and their story becomes so prominent you become engaged then the author switches back to the primary characters - I guess it's the hook used to get you interested so you can buy the next installment.

When I saw this author had released a new series, my thoughts were "I don't know if it will be as good as Legally Bound, but I will give it a try." Well Ms. Saffire, you blew this new series right out of the park!!! OMG the chemistry between Uri and Valentina was hot, hot, hot! I loved how all of the additional characters were intertwined and how you brought characters from the previous series into this one! I just hope that while I'm typing this review, you're somewhere typing book 2 in this series! Can't wait!! Nice Job and please don't make us wait too long for the next release!

Let me explain why I feel the author got it right before I go into why I loved the book.The book flowed perfectly, things hit when it needed too, sucked you in right on time and left you frustrated and quickly soothed... and for the love of all things great this author did not wait until the freaking end of the book to tie everything up! I can not stand when I am reading a book and everything is tied up in the last 3% of the book, like it's quickly thrown together. NOT this book, we knew answers to questions pretty early on, what what read was how things were handled ( not spoiling a hot dang thing... read the book it's great)Now alpha male was all up and through this book and I was like HELL TO THE YEAH and for some reason I swoon like a school girl when he called her bella.. I was extremely delighted to find however, that reading this book did not require any prior basketball knowledge. Around The League In 80 Days gave me a deep understanding of what it means to be a fan for each NBA team through the moving stories and words of true fans. Not one city could be the same without the game. The pure joy and incredible euphoria experienced through sport is beautifully illustrated in the words of this father-son adventure. I highly recommend it!

Gabe Allen's knowledge and basketball acumen shine in his long-form debut. A must read for any young NBA fan with a dream to cover or be a part of the league. Around the League in 80 Days is an elegantly epigrammatic tale of a father and son's joint journey across the country in the name of love for the game of basketball. Gabe and Bubba share an obvious passion for the splendid sport of basketball, but they also are enamored with the entire brownball experience and all of the people that make the game so great. The book not only explores the culture and community of all 30 NBA teams, the two tasteful travelers delve deep into the days of yore within each city by providing brief but didactic historical/geographic synopses in each chapter. A must read for everyone!

By Cecile1985 The Adventurous Big Bold Bear, by Ashok Pruthi, is about friendship, life lessons and about what it means to be a kid: playing at the pool, eating ice cream and spending time with friends, communicated through the story of BB, the bear and Ryan. Ryan is a young child who needs a friend and BB fulfills those basic needs by being there for him as a best buddy, friend and role model, and by providing that sense of adventure that is missing from many relationships. BB, the bear is not only loving, but adventurous, he plays sports, enjoys looking at the stars, camping, fishing and going on trips (which is the bazaar, in this case). The writing is exquisite, engaging, beautifully rhyming and well thought out to appeal to children and parents of all ages. In addition, as a children’s librarian and frequent reader of children’s literature, I am convinced children and parents will fall in love with the story of BB, the bear and Ryan.
