About the Author Betty Dagher Majaj was born and raised in Lebanon, but moved to Palestine after she married Dr. Amin Majaj. She ran a field hospital during the 1948 war, served in various charitable organizations and served as the director of the Princess Basma Center for Disabled Children for thirty years. She was a first hand witness to the war of 1948 that created the modern state of Israel and the 1967 war that resulted with her neighborhood in Jerusalem being occupied by Israel. She also returned to Beirut several times during the long Lebanese civil war to check on her aged parents and their home. In addition to her many outside accomplishments, Mrs. Majaj raised four successful children while playing host to a constant parade of scientists, doctors, politicians, and other visitors through the old stone house that her Father-in-law built in East Jerusalem. She led the Princess Basma Center to unprecedented expansion through her boundless energy, fearless determination and enormous vision. Her deep compassion and empathy created a strong and trusting bond between her, her staff, her patients and international donors.

One Woman's Journey is an Amazing Journey By Wils Murphy When I read the history and religious history, the connections between families, and the descriptions of the countries of Lebanon and Palestine, all intertwined deliciously with food, with all the ingredients that say, "family", I was drawn into this book and read it cover to cover. This excellent memoir describes places that we only hear about on the news or in political discussions, but not often from someone like Betty Dagher Majaj, who grew up in these places, who still lives there, and who takes us on a journey through her own eyes. I highly recommend that you take this journey with her.

Stiver I am grateful that I was guided by a friend of Betty Dagher Majaj to obtain and read this wondrous book. It's a fascinating, indeed mesmerizing, read. Ms. Dajaj writes of a truly horrific period in the history of her Lebanon and her Palestine. Israel and the Zionists who control it, as they impose vindictive and brutal state terror on their victimized neighbors, are excoriated time and again by Ms. Dajaj for their depredations, but she does it with an under-stated elegance that I (for example) cannot match. As I wrote to a group of friends this day, this sentence from page 203 is representative: "The continued violence and poverty to which Palestinians were subjected produced an increasing stream of children with disabilities." Any intelligent and compassionate human being knows that Zionism and its practitioners (Jewish, "Christian" and assorted others) are the perpetrators of such crimes against humanity--surely, endless crimes with no accountability that fit a diagnosis of dangerous psychosis that must be treated and resolved.P.s.
