You can pick a place you like and I’ll pay the rent, but I’m not doing this part time ***t. When I get to be home, I want it to be with my woman at my side.” I loved the more relaxed Echo, “there’s a lot I’d like to show you right now, but I’ll keep myself in check. If anyone here even sees a part of your a**, I’d be ready to kill them.” She bites her lower lip. “You like it when I go alpha, don’t you?” I love this series I always love Shyla's books.

Echo and Dixie stole my heart By Amazon Customer I have read most of this author’s work, but For the Love of Dixie is one book that will forever be engraved in my memory. This book is a very emotional and controversial read. I love the fact that this author was not afraid to touch on a sensitive real area of life. Not everything is a fairy tale. For the Love of Dixie deals with the ugliness of racism and the hatred that comes along with it. When I started reading this book I was not prepared for just how much this book would affect me and I loved every second of it. This is Dixie and Echo’s story and let me say this, I could not get enough of it.Dixie Dunn is the daughter of one of the members of the Kings of Chaos MC. She was bought up around the club and instead of being treated like family they did not protect her or take care of her like they should have. Dixie is mixed and because of that she was treated horribly and no one intervened on this young girl’s behalf. The emotional damage she suffered broke my heart. Instead of feeling loved she felt unworthy, unwanted and had poor self-esteem. The only saving grace was the love from Echo. Together Echo and Dixie find a love that was beautiful and clean. That all changes when Echo breaks Dixie’s heart, and she leaves the only home she knows. Dixie’s character was one that I fell in love with immediately. Years later, Dixie returns home after her father becomes ill and Echo is not willing to make the same mistake.Echo loved Dixie with all his heart. She was the most beautiful woman in the world to him. After his father threatened Dixie and to take away his patch, Echo felt like he had no choice but to break her heart. Over the years, Echo has always regretted his decision and now whenever the opportunity presents itself he makes sure to let her know she’s been claimed.Echo has grown up over the years, no longer willing to let his father bigoted ways keep themapart. The only thing standing in his way is Dixie’s anger and Echo is going to make sure she knows that this time it is for life. I loved how Echo was willing to sacrifice is soul to make a change and to be with the woman he has always loved.The character development and story line was incredibly written, the strong topic matter did not over shadow the epic love story between Echo and Dixie. I really loved this story and could not put his book down.

By Dana Busenbark In this third book of the Kings of Chaos series, we find out more about Dixie, her father, and what drove her away from the clubhouse and the Kings. Though as she puts it, she comes back when she needs to or when she is asked to. I loved that comment when she stood up to someone that really didn't like her because her mother was black. His son makes life more interesting. She ends up coming back, because her father is admitted to the hospital. What happens when she comes back to the club house 2 months earlier for Blue and Shadow's wedding? What happens when she comes back when her father is in the hospital. What happened with Mouth that originally made Dixie leave the club and her father and friends? How is she treated when she comes home by Mouth and the others? What does Echo do to help protector her and be able to retaliate on her behalf? Be on the lookout for the next bit of Calla drama in this book and the crap she is trying to do from prison. It blew my mind! They definitely have some trials ahead of them, and with work, they will get through those trials. It was interesting to see what happened throughout the book and how things changed and became worse and better. I cannot wait for the next book in this series. 48 of 51 people found the following review helpful. Well written and thoroughly researched By Adrienne Dillard Finally, an unbiased book about one of England's most notorious and maligned families. Bravo to Ms. Higginbotham for taking on the Woodvilles. With television shows like The White Queen giving out false impressions of this family, its nice to see someone coming out with some real facts. I loved the inclusion of the wills at the end of the book and the massive amount of references in the bibliography giving me other places to look for material. I found the writing very easy to follow (it can be difficult keeping all those family members straight) and enjoyed that when Ms. Higginbotham refuted some long held myth about the family she gave references to PRIMARY sources demonstrating that it's not just her bias, there is actual historical proof for why it is wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it!

New Perspectives on the Woodvilles and the War of the Roses By Bjejune Susan Higginbotham's "The Woodvilles" addresses a family that often has been regarded as nothing short of notorious and even imbued with hints of sorcery in its ascent into the royal circles of medieval England.She aptly and convincingly dispels many of those claims and attacks with a preponderance of evidence that counters earlier accounts of the fractious times and events that came to be known as "The War of Roses".Furthermore, she dismisses claims by earlier historians like Paul Murray Kendall and Michael Hicks as preposterous in their attempts to shift blame from Richard III to the Woodvilles in the death of the Edward IV's young sons; the claims by these same historians that the Duke of Buckingham was possibly involved is also summarily discarded as irrelevant in her account of the young princesses' deaths.Her efforts to clear the Woodvilles ring true given her persuasive arguments based on a number of important connections and facts surrounding their relationships and presence in the royal families of the times. She gives a fuller understanding and appreciation of the Woodvilles, as Kendall did Richard III. One can appreciate both points of view and look forward to further studies and accounts of this interesting period in England's history.Like many others my first impressions of Richard III were formed by Shakespeare's play, a play written for a Tudor queen. When tackling "Wolf Hall" I realized I really had a very skewed view of the Tudors, knew very little about the Plantagenets, and nothing really about the Woodvilles. So, I turned to the historians like Kendall and authors like Brown,Weir and Higginbothan for some understanding.I would greatly appreciate any feedback as to other good books to read on this fascinating time period.

23 of 28 people found the following review helpful. For anyone interested in the War of Roses By Rio 4.5 stars. I couldn't wait for the US release, so I ordered this hardback from England. I'm so glad I did. I love that Susan Higginbotham takes subjects (whether fiction or non-fiction) and studies her subjects immensely and doesn't assume popular myths or so called facts. Some have said this book is pro-Woodville, but I believe Higginbotham simply states facts she has uncovered and never states her opinions as truth. She lays what she has found on the page and then we can discuss the whys and actions? The War of Roses has caused many intense debates, current court cases, groups pro to either York or Lancaster, but bottom line we will never know the answers to these mysteries. I learned a lot about this time that I did not know. My mind has been opened to the Woodvilles and yes, I still think Richard was a bad guy, but who wasn't in those days? I'm going with 4.5 stars only because 176 pages couldn't cover it all. I wanted more, but the main issues are here....Elizabeth's court, Richard and George's relationship, what happened after Edward IV's death, The Princes in the Tower, did Richard want to marry Elizabeth and Henry VII. Fascinating. Even for NF, not my favorite genre, I couldn't put it down.

About the Author Although born in England in 1768, Maria Edgeworth was raised in Ireland from a young age after the death of her mother. After nearly losing her sight at age fourteen, Edgeworth was tutored at home by her father, helping to run their estate and taking charge of her younger siblings. Over the course of her life she collaborated and published books with her father, and produced many more of her own adult and children s works, including such classics as Castle Rackrent, Patronage, Belinda, Ormond and The Absentee. Edgeworth spent her entire life on the family estate, but kept up friendships and correspondences with her contemporaries Sir Walter Scott and Lord Byron, and her writing had a profound influence upon Jane Austen and William Makepeace Thackeray. Edgeworth was outspoken on the issues of poverty, women s rights, and racial inequalities. During the beginnings of famine in Ireland, Edgeworth worked in relief and support of the sick and destitute. She died in 1849 at the age of 81.

Why kill a bunch of zombies, then shack up with two hotties, of course!!We meet Helen in Base, the first book based in this post-apocalyptic world created by Cathleen Ross. In Base, Helen is tired, starved and fighting off braindeads to stay alive as well as protect her baby elephant. There's a fantastic scene in Base where Helen is given the lay of the land, what's what in this new world order and whaddya know, she's totally on board with it. In fact, she's so on board, she's doubled her fun with two guys we find out in this short to be Peter and Adam. There's also an absolutely hilarious scene in Base where something happens to Peter during some sexy times shenanigans. Heat is Helen's story.I have liked Helen right from the start. I liked her when I met her in Base and I continue to like her now. She is brave, independent and pragmatic in a no nonsense kind of way. She's managed to maintain her sense of humour in this crazy world she finds herself living in. She knows the world has gone to hell and she needs protection. She's okay with that, in fact, she's so okay with it, she's picked herself two hot alpha males to keep her safe. Way to go, Helen!!Both Peter and Adam are great. Hot, hunky and sexy, oh, and also sex starved, which is exactly what Helen needed to help her get over her ordeal before they rescued her.This is a quick, short, sexy read. It's great fun and full of laughs. You don't need to read Base, in order to read this story. Ms Ross does a great job setting up the back story for Helen with brevity and succinctness. That said, read Base anyway. You get a very, very sexy Navy Captain in Base and he's worth the read to get to know.

The Vietnam Diary – 1966 - 1967 is a collection of letters and poetry written during a young man’s tour of duty in Vietnam. It includes photos and flashbacks that occurred during the author’s writing of the book, and is illustrative of the lives of the thousands of troops that experienced that controversial war. The author joined the Marine Corps in 1966 and by the fall of that year was in Vietnam in the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Division in Golf Company, Weapons Platoon, was posted as a machine gunner. He was involved in 2 major battles, many smaller ones and was wounded twice. The journal is a chronological account of his year there starting from boot camp in San Diego to his final days in the service. Mixed with his actual journal entries are letters he writes home and poetry he wrote that reflects his response to the war, combat and death. The letters to his father and his mother and sister are distinctly different in content and tone, the journal entries the musings of a young boy away from his family for the first time in horrific conditions, the poetry fresh with promise, and the remembrance’s often painful. By way of example: Excerpt from Letter to Dad: “But speaking of your counter-insurgent, you can bet your boots that’s what we are. We employ the same tactics they use with heavier armament and better equipped personnel. We are hardly conventional troops, though they call us that back home for political as well as social reasons, but we use much the same tactics as do the VC short of torture, killing of innocents, etc. although there are scattered incidents of these as in any war. But we hide in the field, search and destroy, sweep, ambush, etc. generally being miserable, wet, hungry, cold-hot, and wishing we were home.” Excerpt from Letter to Mom & Sis: I received my tentative orders and I’m scheduled to go overseas Nov. 21, so it looks like I’m not going to get a chance to see you before I go. There isn’t real need, for love explains and shows all, and it is enough to carry me across those waters. I love you both and I know that I am loved, so I’m content until I return next fall. Excerpt from Journal Entry: Relatives and family…worry. They worry about me and I worry about them worrying about me. Winds flowing every way and I’m coming back…worry is ungood and bothers. Forget and live life as I’m doing on my part with death possibly just around over there… Part of a poem written after six months in-country: What brings me here? What leads my path To find this dreary horror Singing a muddy melody of Blood and lost friends? Perhaps a quiet somebody will Come leading me by the hand To sit and explain those things And all things and, and… Excerpt from a Remembrance: I could feel the bullets whizzing around my head like angry hornets and then there was a loud clap next to my face with the sonic slap of a bullet that just missed me. I crouched down unable to see where it came from, cursing and angry then got up and moved forward. Eventually the firing stopped. No one was hurt and that bullet didn’t have my name on it. Still left me shaking. The author served a 2 year enlistment and was honorably discharged as a Lance Corporal with two Purple Hearts. He was profoundly affected by the war both physically and mentally and it drastically changed the way he looks at life. In 1997 he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma caused by his exposure to Agent Orange, the chemical herbicide and defoliant made by Monsanto that U.S. forces sprayed extensively in order to kill vegetation in the Vietnamese jungle and expose Viet Cong hideouts. His Epilogue credits Monsanto for ruining his life and the lives of so many others following the war.

Born Harold Banta Robinson in Newport, RI on 5 August 1946, son of a US Naval military officer, Robbie lived all over the world following his father's duty stations for the first 15 years of his life.

His family moved to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico in the 1960's when his father retired from military service. Robbie spent several years in Mexico and in the mid-1960's was swept up in the military build-up for Vietnam. Robbie joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1966 and served a tour of duty in Vietnam: 1966-1967. He was a machine-gunner, carrying the M60 machine-gun, in "G" Company, Weapons Platoon, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, United States Marine Corps. He was wounded twice and served with honor, his battalion being decorated several times for action in the field. He received two purple hearts for his wounds sustained in battle and still carries the shrapnel.

Robbie returned from the war to enter college in Mexico City and concurrently undertook the study of Buddhism. The Vietnam War had made a profound impression on him and he felt the need to look for the meaning of living. He moved to California in the early 1970's on the way to the Far East to study Buddhism, but wound up enchanted with the Southern California coast and never left.

Robbie married in 1978 and had a son in 1986. They lived an affluent and joyful life until 1998 at the age of 51 Robbie contracted cancer of the lymph nodes caused by Agent Orange. He fought it into remission with chemotherapy and for 11 years was cancer free. His wife fought breast cancer for 8 long years before passing away in 2011.

In 2008 Robbie's cancer returned and was again beaten into remission by chemotherapy which caused two incidents of pneumonia and hospitalization. The cancer came back again in his eye in 2012 and was put into remission with radiation. It returned for the fourth time in 2014 and required more chemo. The pneumonia returned after only 4 treatments and landed him in the hospital again. That put end to chemotherapy as a treatment option, but those 4 treatments put him into remission.

The chemo's side effects have given Robbie peripheral neuropathy (numbness in feet and hands). He is 50% disabled and it is difficult for him to remain on his feet any length of time. Today he lives in Los Angeles with his wife, and has three grandchildren by his son.

To the extent that I have known Skeeter more than fifty years colors my opinion. Nonetheless, I think it is a worthwhile read for anyone looking for adventure and seeking meaning in life. My own daughter is currently in the military, but thankfully not in physical peril at this time. To say that era was difficult for the youth would understate the angst we experienced. Today's youth has it's own hill to climb and it is made steeper by the financial climate. The struggles and perils overcome by this young man transcend generational differences. The humor amidst the terror make it real and human. I read this in one sitting, not something I usually do. I give it my highest rating.

It was so personal and let me into Robbie's heart and soul from those terrible days when he was in the Vietnam War. I remember protesting against that war, feeling it was not where our young men and women should have been, but I never felt rancor towards our men who had to fight. I loved the way Robbie as a young man, in the height of the atrocities of war, always thought of his parents and family, writing only what he knew they would be able to confront. What a wonderful son and what love he had for his family! I was so sorry to hear about his cancer and unfortunately there are so many other veterans who are harmed by war. Thank you for a good read and for sharing your innermost thoughts and poetry.

The voice of a 19 years old in Vietnam, yet, this is the voice of a mature man, this is the voice of a nation, this is a humanitarian voice. Through letters to family, through his own journal at the time and through his memories of these years, 1966-67, Mr. Robinson unfold a world. It is so raw, it is so real, it is the cry of a young man to remain alive despite all odds, a cry to continue to create life and future. It will make you laugh, it will make you cry, it will make you be in Vietnam in 1966. I just finished reading it and I will read it again. This story is not the story of a single man, it is the story of who we were, of what we dreamed of, no matter where we were in 1966.

I have been waiting to purchase this book the second it was advertised on Amazon. I patiently waited for it to come out! To say the least, I felt like a child on Christmas opening a present. The moment I read the first paragraph I was hooked! As a long time & obsessed fan of Anne Boleyn, I have NEVER read anything as fresh, rich, potently filled with WONDERFUL information of Anne. Places she went. I swear you could feel the feelings she may have felt. Imagine what she saw. I actually got butterflies in my stomach a few times because the authors were so amazing in the perfect words in their sentences, I felt like I was in on a secret or that I was transported to the 1500's, walking right beside Anne. I truly did! It is now 3:30 am. I have to wake up in 3 hours to go to work. I had to force myself to put it down so I could get sleep. Now that I'm in bed, still can't sleep for excitement, so I'm writing this review in bed on my laptop. Thank you to the two ladies who must have spent ... I can't imagine the time they put into it. I've never been to England. Being a die hard 'Anne Boleyn fan' it is my dream to go. This book soothes my ache for I am immensely satisfied!! The photographs in this book!! ... These photographs are... WONDERFUL!! The style of writing walks you through her life with the photographs neatly arranged so you can read about Anne's experience and see with that, each landmark. The authors went way above PRISTINE here! They obviously put their heart, their WHOLE heart into this! I am the blessed receipent of this wealth of knowledge, beauty and emotions this book floods me with!! If you are an Anne enthusiast, this book is a MUST! THANK YOU AGAIN NATALIE AND SARAH! Zupanec Let me start by saying that this book is a must if you are interested in Anne Boleyn and the Tudors. It's a wonderful travelling companion; I have taken this book with me to the UK this December and, thanks to Sarah Morris and Natalie Grueninger, I had fun following into the footsteps of Anne Boleyn. What's really great about this book is that it's literally talking to you when you're on the spot of a historical sight; `look here', `imagine this', etc. Visiting historical places associated with Anne with this book in my hand was a unique experience; authors did an amazing job in bringing these places to life! I was especially thrilled to learn that Anne Boleyn was ennobled as Marques of Pembroke in the Garter Throne Room at Windsor Castle; as I have imagined this day in her life so many times before, I was thrilled to visit the chamber where it actually took place, even though today it looks nothing like it looked during Anne's day! Another great thing about this book is that it details the royal progress of 1535; some new information is included here, which is really great!It's impossible to visit all places at once, especially if you don't live in the UK, so I will certainly take this book with me again when I'm back! Here's a little advice to those of you who, like myself, are not from the UK; I recommend you to read this book while browsing maps and looking at photographs online; this is how I was planning my itinerary and it was an equally thrilling experience.The only tiny criticism I have regarding this book is that authors did not explore the legend behind Briis-sous-Forges near Paris, a place where Anne Boleyn allegedly spent her youth; since this place is associated with Anne as well (the `Anne Boleyn's Tower' still stands there today), it would have been nice to see it included in the book. Apart from this, it's a wonderful guide that offers you a tantalising glimpse into the life of Anne Boleyn!

The authors literally take us through Anne's footsteps from her beginnings at Blicking Hall to her death. For those of us traveling to England this is our travel guide. Everything from where Anne visited, lived and prayed to tourist's information. The authors added pictures of each destination (some I have never seen.) If you're not planning at trip to England you can follow in Anne's footsteps throughout this beautiful book. This will make a great gift for any Tudor fan, a wonderful coffee table book and a detailed traveling companion. Thank you to the authors for putting this together.
