About the Author Herman R. Trout, Jr. graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Camden, NJ. During World War 2, he enlisted in the Army and served with “C” Battery of the 98th AAA (Anti Aircraft Artillery) Gun Battalion. He participated in the Pacific invasions of Kwajalein, Eniwetok, and Okinawa. Herman worked for RCA and the Collingswood, NJ Board of Education. He coached Little League baseball, and he’s a Life Member of the American Legion and the VFW. He now resides in Riverton, NJ.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Amazing! By Ruth Rowen Herman's 3-year journey was full of courage, commitment and hope. In his humility he shared his feelings of frustration and weaknesses. It was amazing to me how well a 19-year old wrote what it was like to be at war, away for 3 1/2 years from the one he loved so deeply. Reading the book has given me a greater appreciation for those who serve so that all may be free. Thank you Herman, for sharing these very personal love letters to Anne so that we can in some small way, experience what you had experienced.

Here is a collection of love letters from a soldier far off in the Pacific during World War II to his one and only as he endured the rigors of that war. And as you turn the pages you can hear the echoes of THE BOOGIE WOOGIE BUGLE BOY with the Andrew Sisters; or blink your eyes and catch a scene from "SWEET ROSIE O''GRADY with Betty Grable. A must read for any World War II enthusiast.
