Originally published by Thorsons, We Borrow the Earth reveals the experiences and knowledge of one of the few remaining 'chovihanos' (Gypsy shamans) still practising in Britain. Drawing on his personal experience and the story of his lineage, Patrick Lee explores the history and culture of his people and their knowledge of the ancient arts of healing and prophesy. He includes chapters on their customs as well as looking at their potions, spells, charms and curses in an open way. In this latest edition, there is a brand new chapter entitled Encounters with Ancient Spirits Using Gypsy Magic. Patrick Jasper Lee was trained in these ancient traditions by his Romani great-grandfather, a practising Chovihano, and has himself been practising as a Chovihano for the past thirty years.

This book puts you in touch with something real. Something that can be felt deep down that has long been forgotten. The simple and unassuming way the author explains his craft, culture, and way of life is very accessible. The way the media portrays Gypsies/Roma is very shameful and downright embarrassing. Dare to read this book and understand what an intricate, educational, spiritual, and pure way of life this Roma leads. Read with your head and learn with your heart. Lee is a powerful teacher and great storyteller. You will be sad that the book has to end. Enjoy!

By Libby Lindseth This author has got to be the best one in regards to gypsy literature, as he has actually lived it, and knows what he is talking about..... Don't hesitate to read this one of a kind reading.. Most of us do not even know many factual truths of the gypsy way of life, it is a dying culture, and we cant forget them, as we can't ever forget about the American Indian, and other indigenous groups of wonderful people, who really knew how to live and did know how to not destroy this planet.... and the very closeness of living with family ,what really does matter in this world, especially now it makes you think and makes you want some of those ole ways to stick around.. The gypsy people are another group going extinct with their old ways, and need to be appreciated as all indigenous groups do, we can learn a lot from them... Libby

By Amazon Customer Actually I love the history and back story of the Romani (Gypsy) tribes. Lee weaves personal vignettes with research and biographical material from an variety of resources. He focuses on the spirituality of the Romani life, and the choices gypsy peoples have needed to make, making this oft maligned group of society more understood and hopefully more accepted and embraced. The bits of wisdom and insights he shares are both practical and inspirational.
