Philippine Rain is the true story of an American girl living with her Air Force family in the Philippines at the height of the Vietnam War. Both a coming-of-age love story and a portrait of the Sixties, the author's teen voice raises questions about the conduct of American foreign policy still relevant today.

Wright, Jr. I found Philippine Rain to be an excellent presentation of two of the struggles of the human animal throughout history. First, the struggle of a sixteen year old daughter (the author) coming of age and exerting her flowering personality as she is confronted with first-love, disapproval by her father, and a bewildering war in the background; and, second, the continuing struggle of the human race in the killing of his own kind. The author’s relationship with, and her depiction of, her parents is well done. She makes the closing years of the 1960s come alive: Walter Cronkite, Bobby Kennedy, the anti-war demonstrators, the music, the fashions, the permissiveness, the very ethos of that tragic era. This book is particularly recommended to those who, like the author, became aware the Vietnam War was wrong while their father doggedly insisted it was right. The author of Philippine Rain is this reviewers niece but my attitude toward the book is, of course, unbiased.

By Amazon Customer Once given the opportunity to read this book, after prying it from my mother's hands upon her completion of reading it, I couldn't put it down. The plethora of emotions ran the gamut. Without producing a spoiler I personally related to the parenting modus operandi characteristics of her mother and father with an equal amount of relevance towards my love for the United States Air Force way of life. I truly felt as if I could have been Deborah's neighbor through the entire book, cover to cover. What a memorable trip into the past. A MUST READ!!!
