Alton Miller shares his memories of Wesley's Bunch. A story as much about the miles as it is about the years. His mama and daddy may call Louisiana home, but their nine children are more at home on the road. Moving from sawmill camps and homemade shacks in the 1950's and 60's the Millers grow up road broke. Alton shares his story with simple language and an innocent outlook. Riding in the back of pickups, in homemade campers or a converted school bus, with Mama cooking in roadside camps, Daddy is always ready to move on. Living in the log woods of Oregon and New Mexico, Colorado to Alaska, Montana to Louisiana, Alton's childhood is a boys adventure. The rules set down by Daddy the only ones to follow...sometimes.

Travels and Generations By George Papcun Wesley Miller was an itinerant sawyer – a tradesman who, a half century ago, was forever in search of logs to saw into planks, and sawmills where he could ply his trade. No lasers back then to guide the blade, the sawyer listened to the sound of the blade. As it sang to him, it told him the temperament of the wood and how to cut it square and true.Looking for work and restless even when he found it, Wesley piled his family – wife, two boys, three girls -- into an old Pontiac or a pickup truck or whatever transportation he could find, in search of new logs, new blades. Thus commences a travelogue like you have never enjoyed before. To say that times were tough is a cliché, no matter how true, but going on this trip will make tough times real for you. Backroads of Louisiana, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Montana, Alaska come to life with precise, authentic detail that raises family narrative to the level of poetry. The story is narrated by Alton, the youngest. It ends when Alton is sixteen and therefore then a man. Other family members have grown, gone to war, started their own families with greater of lesser success. This is a story of travels and generations. Not merely a story, it happened; it is truth.
