About the Author

Rev. M. Duane Sinn was raised on a farm in Nebraska, and attended the University of Nebraska for one year before joining the Army Air Corps during the Korean War. While in basic training, fellow recruit Jerry Van Dyke helped him deal with his undiagnosed dyslexia in a humorous way.

Upon discharge from Hickham Air Force Base in Hawaii, Duane returned to Nebraska with his wife and twin sons to attend college and work various jobs: insurance salesman, radio announcer, window dresser, ladies lingerie clerk, and part time minister, just to name a few. It would take twelve years to earn his bachelor's degree from Hastings College and finally, his Master of Divinity Degree from Iliff School of Theology in Denver.

In 1968, he came to Terre Haute, Indiana as the Methodist campus minister for Indiana State University and Rose Hulman Institute of Technology. Twelve years later, he joined LBJ's War on Poverty as Executive Director of the Western Indiana Community Action Agency.

Fiercely independent, Duane has always followed his own moral compass when faced with difficult choices. He has been married to author Lucia Sinn for twenty-six years, and they have six grown children. They live in a century old farmhouse in Indiana, and spend winters in a condominium overlooking the Gulf of Mexico in South Texas.

Good Story With An Intense Main Character By CC If you are buying this book with the expectation of getting some of that Old Time Religion keep looking. This book details the beginnings of a career questioning authority and standing up for Christian based principles in social justice and life equality.A fascinating journey into the beginnings of social issues that are just now getting resolved within our current level of acceptable standards. This is an interesting and introspective look at one of the personalities who took to heart JFK quote "Ask not what your country can do for you . . . "I found the main character to be very introspective, irreverent and sometimes funny, but not in a stand-up way but more like a good friend sharing anecdotal information about an incident he experienced. With enough pathos and subtext to keep the read interesting.Author M. Duane Sinn has an easy-going writing style that allows the reader to move through the historical events of the eras this book focuses on, as if viewing an intersting documentary. It is a very visual trip through history and an immense amount of time went in to the detail which is a good thing.Overall it's an interesting read that allows the reader to fully integrate into the story line and become a part of the story.

A Preacher Called Sinn is an amazing book about Duane Sinn, a minister who has suffered his entire life through countless tribulations. He had a very rough upbringing, but the worst was yet to happen.Regardless of everything that Duane goes through in this story, he never loses his faith and he always finds the strength to prevail. His life is symbolic of how we should aim to act in the face of adversity. His morals and values are questioned, his reputation is destroyed, his will is tested - yet he is a true hero who rises above the noise.The author really told his story in a captivating way. The book was a joy to read, and it never became stale or uninteresting. Amazing book, I can recommend this to anyone.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Beautifully written By cc2015 I've been really loving reading memoirs lately, and this particular one stuck out to me. Sinn did a great job connecting with me as a reader and drawing me into his world and his experiences. A few components make up a truly successful memoir: the writing voice must be compelling, the experiences described must be something that readers can be interested in, and the author has to be able to connect with the readers on a certain level. I think this book achieved all of that, and it was an extremely easy read to get through: I found myself clinging onto his every word. Overall, this was a beautiful story, and the author has an amazing grasp on how to connect with his readers. If given the opportunity, I'd definitely read more by him.

If you ever doubted God or lacked faith in Him, after reading this book, your faith will go to another level. The character of Anna Mae will crack you up with laughter and tears.

I was completely transfixed with the three passages she shared, and ordered the book immediately. Having just finished Bulletproof Vest, I cannot say enough good things about it. Her writing is intriguing and true as she brings the reader through out her life with her father. I highly recommend it!!!

Her word play is so perfectly done that you find yourself flipping the pages long after you told yourself you were only going to get a chapter in before bed. You end up finishing the whole book. I highly recommend it !

This book not only takes one to a different time, a Mexico before the cartels ruled, but also to the two worlds of north and south of the border. Bravo! What a wonderful and brave book.

So I downloaded a sample of this ebook to my google phone to see if this version was right for me.This ebook uses a clear, easy to read font type. Paragraphs wraps around well. However, The title of each chapter is at least twice as largeall caps, which sometimes doesn't work out well on portrait mode. It has a table of contents that is hyperlinked, but it is listed by number only. Not as useful when you don't know that the chapter is for! It contains no pictures, but I wasn't expecting any. Finally, the price is about the same as others, but I give it three stars.Now about this book.This is very insightful guide to the principles underlying hermetic. Each of the seven principles is presented and discussed in an easy to understand manner. However, to apply these principles to your life is another matter. This book is not about the practice of hermitic, but about the primal philosophy that transcend mysticism and religion. Dechantal Smartly written, The Kybalion is not a book that you read all at once but it is more of a study book that was originally written in 1908. There are seven principles explained in this book: mentalism, correspondence, violation, polarity, rhythm, cause and effect, and gender. For what appears as though it would be a hard read, it really is not. Very thought provoking!

I was skeptical about how much helpful information I could actually find in a short read. The information was presented so straightforward that I was embarrassed to look at my so called Nanny checklist I had designed before reading this book. There wasn't one moment where I questioned why certain qualifications were needed, because the author explained the importance of each of them. Reliability was a trait I would want in a nanny but I don't know how I let basic first aid slip my criteria list.Althea had done her research in the area of finding that perfect nanny and it shows. I recommend this book to anyone who knows that they want when choosing a nanny, and those who are not sure. Even for a know-it-all like me, I learned so many things which is beneficial for me and my children's well-being.

Emily Hollinger and Nick Farrington met by accident but had chemistry from the beginning. Emily has had a rough life, losing both parents in a tragic house fire while a Junior in high school. Her family lived comfortable and she was able to use the homeowner insurance to rebuild a house. She had a good job now, but her organizational skills and bill paying are lacking in her personal life. Nick just happens to be a credit counselor, and he can see early on that Emily needs his help. The plot of the story kept me captivated and the pages turning. The dialog is witty and heartwarming. Nick and Emily agree to date, and for him to help her with a budget, bill paying and to enforce by agreement to keep her in line, and yes, that includes BB spankings. This story has many spankings, both with Nick and Emily, as well as, Nick’s sister, Anita and her husband Jeff. There are no sex scenes in this story, just domestic discipline. Best of all, it has an HEA ending.

Nick is a credit counselor and they meet when he is behind her line at the coffee shop when her credit card is declined, and he pays her bill for her. They meet again at a mutual friend's wedding, and spend the day together since they each had come alone. Emily works in advertising and is very creative and good at what she does, but can be very disorganized at home. Nick helps her through that, but a beautiful orange dress almost damages their relationship. Later, that dress will symbolize their love for each other.

Emily is a disorganized but successful ad campaign manager. Nick is a credit counselor. Nick helps Emily conquer herdebt through spankings. Nick is deeply in love with Emily. Emily is also in love with Nick.There were no pre marital sexual scenes. The story was believable and sweet. Thestory is tied around an orange gown that brought they relationship closer together. There is a happy ending.

From the Author Tea and Madness is a collection of pieces I wrote over approximately 3-5 years and is a presentation of my life as it unfolded during a time period when my life had fallen apart into unrecognizable pieces and I had to either rebuild or give up. Watching my book come to life was experiencing my voice being heard for the first time. As a rape survivor who never reported this was enormously validating. This book, if anything, is a product of pain and unexpected joy. 

About the Author As a child, C. Streetlights listened to birds pecking at her rooftop, but instead of fearing them, was convinced they would set her free and she’d someday see the stars. Southern California sunshine never gave C. Streetlights the blonde hair or blue eyes she needed to fit in with her high school’s beach girls, her inability to smell like teen spirit kept her from the grunge movement, and she wasn’t peppy enough to cheer. She ebbed and flowed with the tide, not a misfit but not exactly fitting in, either.Streetlights grew up, as people do, earned a few degrees and became a teacher. She spent her days discussing topics like essay writing, Romeo and Juliet, the difference between a paragraph and a sentence, and for God’s sake, please stop eating the glue sticks. She has met many fools, but admires Don Quixote most because he taught her that it didn’t matter that the dragon turned out to be a windmill. What mattered was that he chose to fight the dragon in the first place. Streetlights now lives in the mountains with a husband, two miracle children, and a dog who eats Kleenex. She retired from teaching so she can raise her children to pick up their underwear from the bathroom floor, to write, and to slay windmills and dragons. Streetlights. It's a journey through life, abuse, pain, healing and learning. It's beautiful and I thought the tidbits about different teas and tea services and the like at the end was a lot of fun, a wonderful addition to the book. I thoroughly enjoyed this volume and will definitely be looking for more from this author.

Phillips Firstly this has to be one of the most beautiful covers I have ever seen which is what drew me to the book and then the book title "Tea and Madness" reminded me of Alice in Wonderland and I was intrigued. As I started reading, it became a memoir which kept me wanting to read more , it became a tale of madness with sadness and grief. Tea and Madness is a collection of events and seasons in the author's life. She has written the book in poetry verse to capture the imagery of the events from the grieving of a lost baby which sadly is something that is more common than we want it to be as having a discussion at work, nearly each woman I talked to has experienced a miscarrige or knew someone who had lost a baby, understanding the horrible emotions of depression, anger and betrayal. I have to admit in parts this book made me tear up and eyes water as you really do go on an emotional rollercoaster with the author and what she has shared. The author has been through so much as she also talks about surviving rape. What I did love about this book though was that I am a tea drinker and throughout the book scattered are little facts and tidbits about teas and different kinds and the history. If you are one who can stomach reading about someone's tragedy and needing a book to show you that even in the darkest moments of life, there is a light at the end of the tunnel - not to sound cliched but in darkness there is light and that though you may not feel that there is a way out or if you feel like the darkness is slipping you under, remember life can get better and that you are not alone.Tea and Madness - A Memoir by C.Streetlights is a powerful, emotionally charged and inspirational book that will leave it tugging on your heartstrings as you flip through the pages.

I immensely enjoyed Cristian's stories from the same era that I grew up in!! I could relate to the fact that we didn't have cell phones and had to actually see or call our friends if we wanted to hang out and spending hours on the cordless phone talking to friends!! I especially loved his stories about being able to have the freedom to walk around the neighborhood and hang out with your friends...its so very different for children to have any autonomy these days. Unfortunately we still have plenty of child neglect and abuse, which is the toughest subject in Anywhere But Home. I found it painful to read about the abuse his mother and brother did to him. These are two people who should never have hurt him like that...but because of their own messed up pysche's chose to do so with serious results to Cristians upbringing. I certainly hope there is a follow-up book so I can read more about his life after high school and leaving the nest!!!

Cristian's journey through his childhood was rocky and engaging, as well had me cringing at some points (due to the shear volume of physical injury he has experienced) and laughing out loud. Can't wait to see what the next chapter of his life reveals!

The pages of my copy of the book are rumpled due to the heavy highlighting!Short entries that are easy to read (1 page per day, 180 days worth). Each "tip" can be put into action on a daily basis. So you could potentially become a "new" teacher in just one school year!If you are a principal, this should be at the top of your list for professional development reads for your staff!The best book to give to a college graduate as he/she begins his/her first teaching position.

Todd Whitaker writes so concisely and his advice is so simple yet effective! I had to buy this book because I wanted to see what new insights he had to offer. I highly highly recommend this book for anyone in the education field. Take his advice seriously, force yourself to believe it and you will be that effective teacher/educator Todd Whitaker talks about in his book!

What a Cliffhanger... Loved reading about Kyan and Abby... The story is well written and engaging from the start. Abby grows up with her Aunt Lulu who has sworn to protect her from the Greaters... When the lessers need help with the harvest of apples, the Greater send in help from other Lesser villages.. By the end of the apple harvest Abby's life will have completely changed..Resist:This is an Awesome Continuation to The Harvest Saga Series... Abby is determined to find out what happened to the lesser girl who were taken to Olympus and is determined to save them.. The Greaters from Vesuvius step in to help, but Everyone is Orchard is not so sure if they are really their to help themselves or Orchard.. Resist will leave you wanting more.. Abby will also have to face her feeling once again for the men in her like.. Will she finally choose!! I can't wait for the next book to come out..Reclaim:This is one of my favorite Dystopian Series Ever!! The characters in this series are so well developed and Casey Bond give you such amazing details in the story you can picture what going on perfectly in your mind!! She is an amazing writer and I absolutely love her books..Abby is such a strong woman and she will do anything to save her baby. The Queen of the Greaters is an Evil woman and all the Greaters have the wool pulled over their eyes when it comes to her.. In the final book of the series they will risk their lives to have freedom from the Greaters for not only themselves but for all Lessers .. With the help of Abby's parents and a few others Kyan has come up with a plan to free Abby and all lessers... They want to put an end to the Greater Rule.. Will his plan work?? Will everyone come out alive?? You will have to read to find out..

By goodem It isn't often that you come across an unbelievable dystopian fiction novel these days. The great ones and few and far between. I am happy to tell you, Casey Bond's The Harvest Saga is one of those great dystopian fiction novels. Bond gives us the story of Abigail Blue and the Lessers of The Orchard village. They are oppressed, serving the Greaters of the world. Taught not to want, but to work for those of higher station, the people of Orchard know they are considered less than equal in the world they live in-especially Abby Blue.One of the things that set Bond's story apart was her characters. Their emotions, beliefs, and fear leapt from the pages. You rooted her underdogs and wanted to punish her evil villans. Though at times, Bond did lapse between current day and this futuristic world she created, she astounded me with her story. It definitely ranks up there with recent high grossing dystopian fictions books such as Hunger Games or Divergent. Casey Bond is one talented writer that I will be reading a hell of a lot more of and I can't wait to get started. You should too with The Harvest Saga. Read Abby Blue's fight today.

I ended up reading all night and only put it down to eat and sleep. I was so happy to see that Abby's HEA was someone I hoped it would be. The author did a wonderful job of making all the characters come to life, even the bad guys.The pacing of the story was just right. I sometimes had the idea of what might happen, but not all the time. I won't say any more because I don't want to give out any spoilers.There are only a few series that I will read again and this is one. I felt as though I was in the story.That's the best kind of story to read.

The Black community, as part of the American culture, has watched this country go through a multitude of changes. Many of the changes have been painful in nature and the Black community has the scars to prove it. While there are those that choose to ignore these scars, we as a Country do it at the nation’s peril. There are also those who would minimize the levels of racism that once existed and would make the argument that it no longer exists. It is clear that we have made significant progress in that regard. The best example is Barack Obama being the President of the United States. A quick look at both houses of Congress and the governing bodies in state and local governments will further reveal the lack of much needed progress. A Black president is something I would have never dreamed possible in my lifetime or that of my children. While I am appreciative of the progress that has been made, I am painfully aware of the human cost that was paid to get here, and we still have a long way to go. If we assess racial equality in the private sector in the same manner as suggested for government, we begin to see a greater lack of progress and the scars indicative of the inequality of the past. The suggested assessment will reveal a few Black men and women who have become successful in their own business ventures, as well as a small percentage who have reached senior positions in large companies. It should also be noted here that the number of Black professionals—doctors, nurses, lawyers, educators, and such—has also increased, but not nearly at the levels needed in the Black Community. The lack of positive numbers reflects the largest and most painful scars from the years of inequality. They will be the most difficult to heal. The purpose of this book is to help identify some of the problems that must be resolved to realize the country’s dreams of equality. While the story told here is not unique, its commonality with others may help in the development of needed solutions. The experience detailed here reflects broad career aspirations. There will be discussions about attitudes and emotional adjustments regarding the experiences related here to put things in a better perspective. There may also be times when more detail is articulated than the reader may feel is necessary. There are many issues that need discussion.
