Ian Poulter is one of golf's most charismatic figures, with an appeal extending way beyond his sport. Here he tells his inspirational story, from his early rejection as an Spurs youth player, right through to his match-winning contributions to successive European Ryder Cup Triumphs. Poulter went from an Assistant Professional staffing the club shop to a global superstar, turning pro when he still had a handicap of 4 but the drive and self-belief to make it to the top. His infectious optimism, will power and flair have ensured he remains one of the biggest names on the tour. As well as insights into the crucial moments in his career, and the life of a professional golfer, he talks about his passions outside the game, including his own riotous brand of clothing. Just as Poulter's appearance on the scene came as a refreshing antidote to a sport that was staid and stuffy, so his own book is as forthright and passionate as Poults himself.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Good Read and a Fascinating Story (Especially for Ryder's Cup Fans) By Pam Homsher As the introduction by his managers says, it is early days for Poulter to be writing an autobiography, but his story and humble beginnings are unusual in the world of golf. I really enjoyed reading about his formative years and getting insight on what makes him tick. I am a huge Ryder Cup fan, and that part of his story fascinated me. He is a guy that attracts a huge number of haters - his fascination with social media and willingness to put himself out there plus his success seems to bring them out of the woodwork. The ghosting was solid, the organization was good and the book did give a sense of who he is as a person. I'd give the book a 4 star, but bumped it up to five to offset the haters. I just wish that an audible version with him narrating was available - I'd have loved to hear that!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Couldn't put it down By Kevin Welge Downloaded this to have something to read while at work one day. Poulter is one of my favorite pro golfers and this book reinforced that. From the moment I started reading, I was pulled in. This is one book that all golf fans should read.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. very enjoyable read By Rough Alto Being an American, naturally I am always pulling for our boys to win. But Poulter is one entertaining guy. I am a fan of his because in many ways, he is very American. He was not born with a silver "country club" spoon in his mouth. He pulled himself up by his own bootstraps and has had great success. Something we Americans admire. I hope he continues to have tremendous success, but it would be OK if some of his teammates stumbled a bit in future Ryder Cup matches. Or perhaps our own boys got some better captains.

By Amazon Customer I bought this book today and I couldn't put it down until I finished it just a moment ago...there were so many emotions within me, from anger to sympathy to overwhelming joy as I finally reached the end of book. This is a profound testament of what God can do when our hearts are ready. This book should be in every school library and on every must read list...it is phenomenal reading!!! I never realized the significance of the beauty in a crow...a perfect title, befitting of the story.

In a time where people wear masks to hide who they are or, to portray who they want to be, how refreshing to see José drop his mask to reveal the raw truth about his life. He speaks loud and clear telling anyone who will listen -- this is who I was and, through God's amazing grace, this is who I am!!

Joyce Lovely grew up in Liverpool during World War 2, her family narrowly surviving a blitz which severely damaged their home and killed two thousand of their fellow Liverpudlians in a single week. She and her young friends dreamed of peace and safety, but not as much as they dreamed about ice-cream and chocolate and later, handsome boyfriends. As a teenager in the post-war years she found herself pursued by romantic suitors. Her choice of husband was ultimately guided by her early discovery of God and faith, which was how she found herself a newly-married woman struggling to run her first home in the wilds of the Shetland Isles, trying to make ends meet on the slim pay of her minister husband and the kindness of the islanders. A charming memoir of a young woman’s childhood and coming of age.

Townley Joyce Lovely is a wonderful storyteller, bringing the reader on her journey through war-torn Liverpool, through her teen years and the adversities she faces as she ventures forth in her adult years. I loved reading this book and found it difficult to put it aside for more than a few minutes. A story well told, a life courageously lived, I await Joyce's next volume. At the age of eight, bullets shot past her head as her mother and youngest siblings piled into a car. Not enough room left for the rest of the family, Clementine and her brothers walked beside the vehicle as bombs exploded beside them. Bodies fell to the ground. Dead. You were lucky if you survived without a wound of some kind. With no time to stop and mourn those you love, the exodus from war-torn Rwanda was a chaotic and terrifying experience. Especially for a child like Clementine Bihiga. Clementine wrote Happily Broken; Discovering Happiness through Pain and Suffering not to preach to people, but to come beside them as a friend who cares—as a friend who has traveled through the fire and come out on the other side. Free. Does she have scars? Of course, but she’s here to tell you that scars can be beautiful. Pain and suffering can be beautiful if embraced with a full heart and genuine faith. Why me? It’s something we’ve all said at some point, but what if we turned that into, “Why not me?” What if we could embrace trials and turn them into a redemptive part of our lives? What if we could not only appreciate the silver linings in our lives, but actually see them as beautiful? Clementine endured a life of many struggles. Family members have been murdered. Dreams have been broken. But Happily Broken is her testament that proves that you can take that brokenness and turn it into something radiant. Breaking refines and frees you. Crying is healthy and human, not something to suppress and hide from. In a culture filled with emotionally bottled up people, Clementine’s story refreshes us with hope and encouragement. Tragedies do not define us. It’s our reaction to them that makes us who we are today. You can choose a beautiful life, no matter how many difficulties you have faced and continue to face. You can be thankful for your brokenness. You can learn to value each shattered fragment of your life when you find out how those pieces can be used to mold you into something new, something that shines with the brilliance of a heart full of love and faith. Clementine has experienced it first hand and she would love to share with you how you can find beauty in the midst of storms. It’s true. It really is. You can be happily broken.

About the Author Clementine Bihiga, born in 1986, is an inspirational public speaker and published author of "Happily Broken: Discovering Happiness Through Pain and Suffering". At the age of eight, Clementine and her family were forced to flee their home in Rwanda due to the Genocide and Civil war of 1994 which killed almost a million people in 3 months. Clementine and her family lived as refugees in multiple refugee camps and settlements before they were admitted to the USA in 1999 as refugees. Clementine who faced many life and death situations at a young age including living in refugee camps and waking up among the dead, being bullied as a high school student and losing a daughter, has turned her tragic past into a positive calling of inspiring others to never give up. When Clementine climbed on a "log" in lake Kivu trying to rescue a shirt taken by the waves and finally realizing it was a dead body, she could have given up. When she was beat almost to death by a motorist on her way home, she could have given up. When she woke up among dead bodies claimed by Malaria, Typhoid, Cholera, etc. she could have given up hope. When she got to the USA and was bullyied in high school for being different every single day, she would have quit and given up. Life was unforgiving for Clementine but she pressed on. I loved how the author stayed true to herself throughout the book. The book is interesting from start to end. I also loved how the author was directly speaking to her readers while telling her story. She wanted to transfer a message and she gave it her own way. Reading her life made me appreciate what I have in mine. Seeing all the challenges she went through and how happy she was taught me something about gratefulness and positivity. I would recommend this book to people who feel like their lives are unfair and they want to give up. The author believed in a better life regardless of the bumpy journey. It would be great if the author wrote a second book to this, as I felt certain parts needed more details; however, it was a great quick read.

The subject of education was one to which Nietzsche, especially during his residence in Basel, paid considerable attention, and his insight into it was very much deeper than that of, say, Herbert Spencer or even Johann Friedrich Herbart, the latter of whom has in late years exercised considerable influence in scholastic circles. Nietzsche clearly saw that the "philologists" (using the word chiefly in reference to the teachers of the classics in German colleges and universities) were absolutely unfitted for their high task, since they were one and all incapable of entering into the spirit of antiquity.
