14 of 14 people found the following review helpful. A lucid and sometimes enjoyable spoilerfest By Bookseeker An overview of the life and work of the remarkable and entertaining Lois McMaster Bujold. True confession here, if I am a fan of anyone it is of Ms. Bujold who's sense of humor is rivaled only by her compassion for humanity and her luminous intelligence. O.K., I confess, a really big fan. I have been reading her novels since I discovered her writing through Barrayer, which portrayed the previously masculine business of war through the concern of a woman and mother who cuts through politics and conflict in a decisive manner. This book is so revolutionary that it appears more so in hindsight. Indeed many of the the concerns Lois has been threading throughout her cannon are proving to be some thirty years or more ahead of the culture. Her books are filled with her thoughts on gender roles and politics and human relations so that they become startling relevant to a current culture that is undergoing transformation at the present time. She repeatedly speculates on gender roles freed by technology from reproductive imperatives. And on the effects things such as the science of life extension on human behavior. Her exploration of the biological science on human behavior is both vast and humorous. Her ideas are periodically appropriated and turn up in on TV or in the work of others, explored with less depth.To return to the matter at hand. The author of this work provides a small amount of background and history of Ms. Bujold that is not found elsewhere but puts her process in context. I found this useful and enjoyable. He then provides analysis of all her books in print which is intelligent and well thought out. However, if you have not read every single book this author has produced the effect would be spoilerific in the extreme Since Bujold is such an inventive writer you would be denied the experience and pleasure of having the plots unfold as the author intends. I urge you do not read this unless you have read everything Lois has written before 2015. Let the author unfold her tales in her own words. She knows what she is doing.

The creator as critic By Shalom Freedman This book is based on the lecture notes taken by a Mr. Collier who attended the series of talks given by Coleridge in 1811-1812 at the London Philosophical Society .Coleridge was forty years of age at the time. The lectures open with a general one on the principles of poetry and are largely devoted to Shakespeare but there are a few on Milton.Coleridge is one of English Literature's greatest Shakepeare critics. Coleridge was as a critic primarily interested in the creative process, and saw Shakespeare as the maker of great organic works, the Master of the Imagination ( and not of the mechanical Fancy). Coleridge's Hamlet criticism is one of the milestones in understanding the delay of Hamlet in executing his task. Above all this is a work of one great creative figure appreciating two other giants in the English Literary tradition.

By shannon Not only is it very informational, but the recipes give you the opportunity to experience a piece of Kurdistan from your own American kitchen! I've been looking for a Kurdish recipe book that is in English & uses our measurements in cups/tsp/tbsp to avoid needing to convert to metric measurements (that can also cause changes in final taste of recipe if not done precisely). I've only made it through a couple recipes so far...but I can already tell this will be a very well used book!

About the Author

As a teacher, speaker, and author, Pernille Ripp's work has influenced thousands of teachers globally, as well as the work of school districts across the United States as they try to empower their students and teachers and change the way we educate.

I first read this book several years ago in its e-book version. Pernille's words and thoughts changed the way I saw my job as a teacher and the way I viewed my students as human beings. The practical advice that she gives is incredible, but for me what was even more important was the thoughtful message that she sent on the need to place the power of learning back in the hands of our students. This book started me on a journey that has led me to the best places that I have been in my career as an educator. I recommend this book to every teacher I talk to and I wish, for all of our students, that it makes its way into the hands of as many educators as possible. More than any other "reform" in education, the ideas in this book truly have the power to turn our students into the most powerful learners that they can be. It also has the power to make teachers fall back in love with their jobs again and to find a power that they never even knew that they had.

She doesn't pretend to have the answer to everything but she does try her best to provide you with helpful insight and some potential problem solving ideas. I would love to work in a school district with Pernille. This book clearly shows her passion. The other nice thing is that you can always reference her blog for things she mentions or the hand outs provided in the back of her book. One thing she mentions in the book that is really found to be accurate is that this isn't a book that you will necessary read through all at once. I come back to it from time to time when I need inspiration or just some encouragement.

Pernille's passion for learning shines through her words and it's hard to read this book without wanting to make some changes in your classroom - big or small. I highly recommend this book to all teachers and challenge you to read with an open mind. Just because things have always been a certain way doesn't mean they can't change - especially when we know they aren't best for our students. Be the change in your classroom - you may be surprised what you hear when you start truly listening to your students.

Sometimes people are able to make a better life without lots of help By Barbara VW You don't need to read the previous books (Taking Chances and Making Choices). I have not read the previous books but I think there are spoilers in this book (relationships between the characters). Get your tissues out for chapter one. I haven't read anything so sad since I read the In Death (by J.D. Robb) book that told about Eve's childhood (major character in all the books). Starting chapter two, Courtney tells us about her new life that she made without any help from authorities. There are still some bumps in her life but she has a close friend and a cat that hates almost everyone except Courtney. She is still somewhat uneasy in her relationships.

This is the first book that I've read by Ann Omasta and was not disappointed. I look forward to reading other books by this author.I received a gifted copy for an honest review.

Pirate Bride is yet another tasteful erotica meant to boost our fantasies. I love the pirate theme and I always thought it has great potential for a sexy story. I am used to Alvin's way of creating his characters and little miss Josephine Penny here is no different than the rest of them. She is a nineteen year old blond beauty that finds herself in a steamy yet dangerous situation. Heads up, all the sex scenes are explicit but tasteful as usual. Can't wait for the next book!
