My dear mother—I have kept you posted as far as Tuesday week last, and, although my letter will not have reached you yet, I will begin another before my news accumulates too much. I am glad you show my letters round in the family, for I like them all to know what I am doing, and I can’t write to every one, though I try to answer all reasonable expectations. But there are a great many unreasonable ones, as I suppose you know—not yours, dear mother, for I am bound to say that you never required of me more than was natural. You see you are reaping your reward: I write to you before I write to any one else. There is one thing, I hope—that you don’t show any of my letters to William Platt. If he wants to see any of my letters, he knows the right way to go to work. I wouldn’t have him see one of these letters, written for circulation in the family, for anything in the world. If he wants one for himself, he has got to write to me first. Let him write to me first, and then I will see about answering him. You can show him this if you like; but if you show him anything more, I will never write to you again.

By Yolanda Q Gusmao The letters in the title refer to the letters that guests write home from a Paris Frenchwomen's boarding home, expressing opinions on the other guests in the house. The characters in this small book are: a single New Enlgand young lady travelling alone, an American mother and daughter, a British brother and sister, a German doctor and the French cousin of the owner of the house. Very perceptive and on the mark. Great read if you are interested on how cultural prejudices affect our view on virtually the same people.

Disappointing. There is absolutely no plot, nothing happens, no comedy, no romance. I only finished it since I wanted to grow my read pile and reach my goal, and it is a really short epistolary novel. I wouldn't recommend this at all.

This book. This author. It will leave you wanting for so much more. It will break you. It will haunt you. But I love how beautifully the story is written. I crave how it brings you to your knees, makes your heart ache and just ruin you after you finish the read. And I must've mentioned it before, but the best books for me are the ones that actually make you think. Those that make your mind whirl and work to find the answers, mostly to the question why. Those books just have so much more depth and make them stick with you. It has a way of touching your heart, your very soul. You know deep inside things like this could indeed happen in real life, but what do you know? It's not unless you know someone who went through that experience or read about it, have it laid all out in front of you until you could grasp the idea and try to understand what's actually going on. This is how deeply I felt reading this book. I just love how this author could draw so much emotion in me even at the very first chapter. Now, I'm not one who loves a story about cheating or adultery, but this one is just so great to pass up on. It opened my eyes to something that could very much happen to anybody. It hurts to read, honestly, but so worth it.I despise Colette Jenkins, whom apparently is Griffin's wife. I hate her guts so much that I have never wanted to kill off a character until this woman... She's just such a selfish, ungrateful, manipulative, inconsiderate, lying bitch. The list just goes on on how evil this woman is. She's just so freaking unreal and full of herself. I'll just have to leave it at that. Recounting and remembering her ways just make me want to wring her neck all over again.Griffin Boyd. Man, did I fall in love with this guy. He's so successful and powerful when it comes to his business, yet so naïve and vulnerable in other aspects of his life. He has a huge heart with so much love to give. Even I would want to fix everything for him just to make him happy. He just made some really stupid and bad decisions that are now catching up on him. I don't blame him for any of those decisions. After all, he's just human and he makes mistakes. But damn, those made a big impact on his life. Needless to say, with Griffin being such a great man, everything he went through in this book just crushes my heart so much more. It makes me want to hug and squeeze the crap out of him and just shield him from everything and everyone else. Nobody deserves to be played and manipulated the way this man has been.And then there's Angelina Clark, Griffin's sweet angel. Okay, I know it's totally wrong, but I love this lady. What she and Griffin has is basically forbidden since Griffin is a married man, but just so perfectly right. At this moment though, I'd hate to be in her position. Morally speaking, who the hell would want to be a man's mistress? Nobody deserves to be anybody's second choice or priority. But in Angelina's case, somehow it's different. Probably it's because Griffin has already fallen out of love and is finally fed up of putting up with his selfish wife. That doesn't make what they have right, but I just couldn't explain it. You just have to read the book to see for yourself and understand what I'm saying here.I love this book. I love this author. My mind is still reeling from it all. My heart is still madly pounding in my chest. My soul is still partially broken and crushed from what I've read. But every single moment of it was truly worth it. I couldn't wait to read the next book in the series, Sudden Flames! (I know right now it's just wishful thinking, but... Here's to hoping everything finally works out for Griff and his Angel.)

I LOVED this book, but that ending has me all kinds of jacked up.Griffin is a miserable married man. He spends his free time trying to make his wife Colette happy to no avail. She's selfish, hateful, and has no desire to make her husband happy anymore. There's no way out of the marriage so he's finally fed up when he meets Angelina Clark. The spark between them lights up a room, and Griffin finally does the one thing he never though he would do, has a passionate fling. With all the secrets swirling around him, will Griffin ever be able to be free and happy?OMG I never saw this book coming! The character development is fantastic, with everyone's layers being unveiled slowly. Storyline is well written, exciting, dirty, and flows smoothly. Shanora Williams' talented and diabolical writing style had me shaking my head at the non stop twists and turns that blindsided me more than once. She got my attention from the beginning, keeping it to the very end, with me screaming bloody murder at the cliff hanger. Sudden Desires is a suspenseful, SMOKIN HOT, page turning story that you don't want to miss! The next book CANNOT come soon enough for me!

I was really hesitant to read this book because of the premise. I don't like books about cheating, and I definitely don't like books involving a love triangle. I especially don't like books that end in a cliffhanger, but man did this author deliver and do it right! I was immediately drawn into this book. It is told from 3 different POVs and I think that is what makes this book so good. You get to see exactly what each person is thinking and what they are really doing and what their reasons are for their actions. In the beginning you aren't really sure where this book is coming from. You see that Griffin loves his wife, you see that he is trying really hard to make her happy, you see that she is completely indifferent towards him, and you get to see that he is completely beaten down by this. Enter Angelina. You know right off the bat that there will be trouble. He is a vulnerable man. She is obviously attracted to him. You know that makes for trouble, but I found myself asking if it really is trouble. He is in desperate need of attention and validation. And Angelina is none to happy to give it out. You do get to see the battle of the conscious from both Griffin and Angelina, but honestly you see the writing on the walls. Their affair was unstoppable. And after seeing his wife's thinking, the way she treated him, and her deceitfulness, you find it really hard to sympathize for her. As the story goes on, you get to see how really terrible his wife is. There is a reason, and the book does hint to what that reasoning is but you don't find out completely in this book. And Angelina, she just seems too good to be true for Griffin. She is playing on his every need, and you can't help but wonder what is really going on with her. You know that there is something, but you just can't put your finger on it. There are so many twists and turns and as the story went on, I found myself yelling and gasping and shouting out "no way!!". And when it all comes out and everyone is laid bear, Griffin is finally ready to lay waste! I can't wait for the next book! I can't wait for Griffin to raise up and redeem himself. He deserves his revenge, and then some!

About the Author Frances Hopkins Irwin served as a Peace Corps Volunteer journalist in Kabul, Afghanistan (1964-67). At the Vermont Natural Resources Council, The Conservation Foundation, World Wildlife Fund, and World Resources Institute, she worked as an environmental policy analyst and advocate for four decades. She and her husband, Will Irwin, who met in Kabul, circled back to write The Early Years of Peace Corps in Afghanistan: A Promising Time. Angene Hopkins Wilson was a Peace Corps Volunteer teacher in Liberia (1962-64) and later taught in Sierra Leone and Fiji and was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Winneba in Ghana. Professor in the University of Kentucky's College of Education from 1975-2004, she is the author of The Meaning of International Experience for Schools and of Africa on My Mind: Educating Americans for Fifty Years, co-author of Social Studies and the World: Teaching Global Perspectives, and with her husband Jack Wilson co-author of Voices from the Peace Corps: Fifty Years of Kentucky Volunteers.

Dean Hopkins and Harriet Painter attended the same high school in Wooster, Ohio—a smallish town leavened by the significant influence of an exceptionally fine liberal arts college. Roots and Wings traces the story of two young people who flourished in that environment, both emotionally and intellectually. Both graduated from The College of Wooster, and Dean earned a law degree from Harvard, becoming a practicing attorney in Cleveland. The story begins in the 1920s and passes through Depression years, wartime, and Cold War. Their lives were devoted to their families and their church, but also to peacemaking, a passionate commitment that didn’t fade with youth, but lasted a lifetime. They raised five children, accepted leadership positions, traveled to places commonly and uncommonly visited (always with peacemaking in mind), spoke and wrote, read widely, and, though registered Republicans, almost always voted for Democrats. I loved this book, and can imagine that many others will love it, too!Ron Byars

I have read several books from Mike Riley and they are always good and entertaining. I especially like this one as it adds a new twist to unsolved murders by adding crime scene investigation modern techniques to solve murders commiteed years and even several decades before and finally bring justice to the families of the victims and punish the murderers. Mike Riley's books are very detailed and I like the fact that all cases have a similar structure making it so much easier to follow with detailed information for each case about the victim, the location, the suspect, date of crime, conviction or identification, the backstory, the investigation and the current status. I really enjoyed reading about how forensic science has evolved in the last 50 years to give a the police some much needed help to solve cold cases. It fascinates me to see how they proceed to go over an old cold case and shed new light on who did committed the murder and how they proved it. I especially liked the case of Lucille Johnson, an elderly lady murdered over 30 years before the murderer was finally identified thanks to DNA left by the murdere's young son who played with legos blocks in the living room while his father was committing murder in the next room! Despicable crimes are finally getting solved and murders convicted for crimes they should have paid for for such a long time. I can just imagine how CSI and modern forensics changed the way polive investigates murders and can now solve any cases even cold icy cases like the one in this book.Overall, the book is well written, flows very well and the cases are fascinating. If you like cold cases, you will love this book. I highly recommend it.

By Anne I’ve been a fan of Mike Riley since I read “More Hollywood Murders and Scandals” last year, so it goes without saying that I was really excited to get into “Cold Cases Solved”…… And I was not disappointed!This book provides a gripping mix of cold, hard facts, along with the back stories which really take you back in time to the spine-chilling crime in question. I was captured from the very first story and read each case with a mix of fascination and trepidation. In fact, I literally couldn’t put it down – my husband found me on the sofa reading well into the early hours!One of the aspects which made this book stand out for me was the sheer length of the cases – some of them were only solved a couple of years ago! I mean, the story of the two teenage girls who vanished for 40 years was mind-boggling to say the least.If you have a taste for crime, I definitely recommend Mike Riley’s latest book.

Lots of noise, lots of characters, not much substance By Kid Kyoto After the trippy plot twists of Jim Starlin's Infinity Revelation last year I had high hopes for this book. I've loved Starlin's work ever since I picked up Dreadstar many years ago and he's proven to be reliably entertaining. But this book is crammed full of forgettable characters, lacks any real direction and ends on the sort of 'shocking' twist that left me completely bored. Perhaps when the next book 'Infinity Finale' comes out in a year or so this will look better but for now...The plot is pretty simple, Adam Warlock is back from the dead (again). Everyone wants him and there's a lot of fighting. Besides Thanos and Warlock we have the Infinity Watch, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Shiar Imperial Guard, Annihilus, the Silver Surfer and a cast of thousands of screaming extras.With this many characters and this few pages (the book comes in at 112 pages for $25) no one really gets much of a chance to do anything.Starlin's art is great, but sometimes his anatomy slips. For the last few years he's had a habit of drawing characters with freakishly long necks. But more importantly, there's nothing really innovative here, while many of Starlin's books like Breed or even Infinity Revelation offered up innovative layouts or coloring, Infinity Relativity feels plain.I'll be back for the next book, I still like Starlin and have faith in his work, but I doubt I'll be rereading or revisiting this book in the future. If you're on the fence at least wait for the SC or a cheaper digital edition.

By David Mulholland Highly recommend you read Thanos Vs Hulk 1-4 first and Thanos Infinity Revelation will help as well.This story builds heavily off those two previous stories, takes things in a very interesting direction, then raises a great question about the true mastermind. Warlock is in trouble. Big trouble. Thanos does the only thing he can. And I'm REALLY looking forward to the conclusion in Thanos Infinity Finale.Yes, this was a fun read that built the story and mystery and left me excited for the next part.Big cliffhanger warning.

3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. More action, in this sequel By DC NY One of my favorite things about Starlin's Thanos, are his private ruminations. Sometimes they are shared. They might be philosophical or personal, but they are always interesting, and the content persists when recalling the story later.This one has fewer such reflections, it's more action-oriented. But it does keep you absorbed, and wanting more. And there's still a mystery, as to what our hero (Don't hand me that 'anti-hero' nonsense) has up his sleeve, and how much it will cost him.That mystery at the end is the only disappointment. It's not that a good cliffhanger is a bad thing; but rather, there isn't any notification (as of 06/08/2015) of when the Finale will be delivered. Knowing that a resolution with a time stamp is forthcoming, gives us a sort of a virtual IOU closure; but we weren't granted that.Also, the compromise with Marvel regarding the use of Warlock, makes me much more p#ssed at Marvel, than Starlin. This Warlock is interesting enough, and the relationship with the Titan has elements of both friendship & potential foe (as with our 'normal' Warlock). But I would prefer to be cheering for the one we know.Keep it coming, Jim. If Whedon starts going stir-crazy with domestic life, you've got my vote for a joint project, with Marvel staying out of it, this time.
