About the Author Les Hicks, the son of uneducated sharecropper parents who raised fourteen children and four grandchildren on $2.50 weekly income, caught his dream when his parents decided to migrate to Steubenville, Ohio. In Steubenville, Hicks cashed in on his football talent by attracting prominent suitors such as Notre Dame, Nebraska, Iowa, Iowa State, Syracuse, Minnesota, Maryland, among many others. He earned an associate of arts degree from Ellsworth Community College and a bachelor of arts and a master of science degree from Marshall University. He made the dean?s list several times and was listed in Who?s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges. Hicks, a senior environmental safety engineer, has been with Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company for twenty-eight years. His experience at Marshall cultivated life lessons that he brings to work each day, and in fact drove him to his career choice. He chose the safety profession because he said that there were no trade secrets in the profession. Hicks believes that the safety profession is a humanistic way of extending godly love to the workforce by helping them return home the same way they came to work. He earned twenty-one awards from the State of Georgia, including a first-place award for his anti-litter campaign and a third-place award for his pollution prevention efforts during an eight-year period. He has been on the front page of the Atlanta Business Chronicle and has been featured in national news and advertising publications. He has made presentations on safety, recycling, and energy conservation to audiences from all over the United States and abroad. Hicks is active in the community, pouring the benefit of his experiences into other lives on multiple fronts. He serves as a mentor to troubled youth, teaches Sunday school, serves on the Cobb County Literacy Council to decrease the dropout rate and improve literacy in his county. In his wallet, Hicks keeps a lifetime pass to all Marshall University athletic events, a reward he and his teammates received for their crucial role in reestablishing the football program. It?s a fitting visual reminder for Hicks, who maintains an emotional tie to Coach Lengyel, the program, and the university that did so much for his character and prepared him to touch the lives of others through service and mentoring. Hicks and his wife, Della, are the proud parents of four who have also earned multiple college degrees with honors.

By Andre' I have personally known Lester HIcks for the past four plus years now and his story continues to provide necessary inspiration, although he may never realize it. He is always willing to candidly share his experiences, and you can always see the sincerity and passion in his eyes as he recounts the stories. Reading this book only adds to the first-hand accounts Les supplies around the Lockheed Martin facility. I'm sure there are far too many memories in his head and far too little time for him to share everything. I am thankful for his decision to record the truths of those trying years in his life, and the lives of any affected by the tragic events. When I need motivation or a reason to push through adversity, this book provides that necessry lift and reminds me why I can and should continue -- against all odds.

Jones Jr. The author Lester Brian Hicks, tells of his experiences growing up in relative poverty, becoming a success in life through hard work, good parental role models, and faith in God. Not to mention some mentoring from coaches and other responsible adults along the way. Mr. Hicks was inspired by the Marshall University tragedy, and was on the rebuilding team after the horrendously tragic plane crash took almost the entire team. Mr. Hicks doesn't seem to embellish events like some authors sometimes tend to do. He even corrects some mistakes made in the Hollywood movie about the tragedy.

This is one of the best "crime/action/adventure" memoirs I've ever read. I don't generally like books about crime or thieves, but a friend told me I had to read this, and I could NOT. PUT. IT. DOWN. Not only does the "League of Thieves" explore the entire truth of the "Scotland Yard Cocaine Connection," it also explores the power of love, greed and ambition. Not only is this an amazing action/adventure/crime story, but it's also a love story and one that is filled with heartache and pain. I do not want to give away SPOILERS, but this book has a bit of everything in it. It's exotic, dramatic, "on-the-edge-of-your-seat" exciting, and it takes you to parts of the world you've never experienced before. I also love the writing and depiction of the characters.Simply put, "League of Thieves" is a gripping, fast-paced true story that chronicles British Roy Whitehorne's involvement with the British government, Scotland Yard, as well as thieves on Majorca, Spain, the U.S., Mafia, Isle of Man, and South America. Whitehorne is knee-deep in the "League of Thieves" with cocaine smuggling, emerald cartels, international spies, and murderers. Since I love England, I was particularly interested in this story because of its tie-ins with the documentary, "Scotland Yard's Cocaine Connection," first filmed by the BBC in 1985. The British government banned this documentary from being released due to the expose of police corruption and certain high ranking Scotland Yard individuals. The documentary was later remade and aired on Granada TV "Word in Action," Britain's long-running and most illustrious current affairs program. However, that was just the tip of the iceberg. Roy Whitehorne's book, "League of Thieves" tells the WHOLE story. In 1986, Whitehorne was approached by British Customs to testify as the star witness at the Old Bailey. The case revolved around Roy Garner, then known as the "Untouchable," a multimillionaire and Supergrass, which is what England called a snitch, and his involvement with high ranking government officials in the U.K. - all with the protection of Tony Lundy, Scotland Yard's senior detective.The case also involved Nikolaus Chrastny (alias Charles Flynn), the mastermind who smuggled over three quarters of a ton of cocaine with a street value of over 10 million pounds into England. Flynn was the greatest thief ever known to man, having pulled off impossible heists in every part of the globe. To this day, he is a phantom, an enigma. And no one knows if he is alive today or not. My question is, will there be a sequel? I'd love to know if Flynn is still alive or not.I'd like to add that in this eBook version, there are some printing errors - through NO FAULT of the writers. Seems as though when the eBook publisher transferred the copy into their software program, some words were strung together and the copy is not all uniform in appearance. But DO NOT let this deter you from reading the book. The story is fantastic. And when you hear that "truth is stranger than fiction," it applies here. The fact that Whitehorne LIVED to tell this tale is another feat in itself. I cannot wait for a sequel and I hope the authors are writing it NOW.Do yourself a favor. Download this eBook. You'll stay up at nights - not able to sleep - wondering about this story.

By Kindle Customer You have to wonder what Roy Whitehorne knew about the inside corruption of Scotland Yard, or fiction. "Mob boss reportedly infiltrated Scotland Yard officers in biggest scandal since 1980s" Fox News. An amazing story of Scotland Yard, the Caribbean, Columbia and emeralds to the coast of Florida. I live on the coast of Florida and he put my feelings into words about our beautiful sunrises.. "A small burst of light, red with the sea mist peeked out over the horizon and inched its way upwards. Dawn exploded as a golden vapors rose and burst into shimmering ripples on the sea, pink and yellow lights sparkled like jewels and dappled across the hotels and buildings. The dawn was dazzling in its brilliance, a million diamonds flung across the ocean waves. I held my breath, floating numb in captivity of this grandeur. It was so beautiful, I ached. This was my God."

It is also about how they overcame all of that and lived to tell their story. It was April 2003. Amanda Berry worked at Burger King and had completed her usual shift that evening. It was a 10 minute walk home, but her mom didn’t like her walking out at night time. So she called her boyfriend DJ for a lift home but the phone wouldn’t answer. This guy destroys his ex girlfriend's marriage when she's obviously happy. He essentially rapes and kidnaps people. He is a slaver. There are a lot of good moments but they are balanced by the bad. It's well written. I am sorry but evil will never be erotic.

It goes straight to action with no build up and no cool down. If you just want sex with no real personality and no real story other than conquest after conquest, then go for it. I've seen far better stuff on free sites... this is definitely not worth paying any amount of money to read.

After making extensive efforts as a missionary, and being appointed a member of the original Quorum of Twelve Apostles and Church Patriarch, simmering tensions between him and his fellow apostles boiled over, and he was excommunicated in a dramatic break with Brigham Young and the main body of Mormons in October 1845. After leaving the Church, William affiliated with who's who list of notable Mormon dissidents before eventually linking himself with the Reorganized Church, which was led by his nephew Joseph Smith III. By Sharon Haworth This highly researched and documented history is both entertaining and historically accurate. It contains more positive information about William than I have known before. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading it and can hardly put it down. For a researched history it is engaging reading.

Stout Dr. Walker seems thoroughly on Team William, focusing on William's great efforts on behalf of the Church. However Dr. Walker is not willing to hide contemporary documents completely, and gives credence to contemporary reports from Brigham Young and Wilford Woodruff regarding William's unorthodox marital/sexual behavior. Thus Dr. Walker is ultimately unable to avoid recounting facts leading to William's inability to retain a leading role in the Church William's brother had founded, although he does his best to cast doubt on the numerous accounts of William's sexual improprieties prior to 1843.Dr. Walker has done a great service in producing this record of the errant brother of Mormon founder, Joseph Smith. This biography is informative and will almost certainly bring any reader to an increased appreciation for the events and people that shaped the early Mormon movement.My own view of William as sexually dissipated from his youth remains fundamentally intact. Unlike Dr. Walker, I do not think that the women were lying in May 1842 when they testified of William's involvement in promoting illicit intercourse/spiritual wifery. To me it seems apparent that William was actively involved in promoting Dr. John C. Bennett's aberrant sexual paradigm from no later than November 1841 and possibly earlier.Joseph's desire to get William away from the potential for further corruption in Nauvoo meant that William's indoctrination into spiritual wifery remained uncorrected and unduly colored William's later "sealing" activities. Away from Nauvoo, William was cut off from the experiences that trained the rest of the twelve that the Church should be ruled by authority and consensus rather than by a deeply-flawed individual elevated by nepotism.The story of William's final months in Nauvoo as a Mormon apostle is a heart-breaking example of how much the Church is willing to forgive, the amount of love and forebearance a potential excommunicant is afforded at times before the final decision is made to formally end an individual's relationship with the Church.
