By Samuel S Alexander As one who knew Philip all of my life, I could recall my parents forbidding me to ask him about his war time experiences. We knew as children that he was a hero but respected our parent's directive. Obviously nothing was held back when he decided to come forward with his story. The book simply bolstered what I all ready knew about him; he was extremely spiritual and God-fearing. I knew his family met a lot to him by watching his interaction with his children; I also knew his friends meant a lot to him. On the day my father died at the Muskogee General Hospital in 1960, Philip and Helen were the 1st non-family people to arrive. That exemplifies the kind of people they were; I remember not being surprised by their presence that day long ago. He was a role model to many young Indian boys and girls and it was a joy knowing him both as a boy and finally as a man when I became of age.
