Lauded by TrueFaced's John Lynch, bestselling author and fellow Atlantan Jeff Foxworthy, bestselling author Andrew Farley and Third Day lead singer Mac Powell, Staying is a memoir of hope, faith and love, but it is full of gritty and authentic moments every parent will find relatable. Author William Sanders recalls, "Sitting in the backseat of a car driven by my abductor, a crazy woman I used to call mom, the six-year-old me pleads for something I had no expectation of getting. Mercy. Sitting beside me is eight-year-old Cindy, my sister, comforter and fellow victim of a plot that would forever shape the course of our lives. She whispers to me that things are going to be okay. I guess in the longest of long runs, she was right. Thirty years later, lying on the floor of my daughter Rachel’s room for the millionth night in a row, I again plead for something I am beginning to think I'm not going to get. Mercy. On night one million and one, God whispers to me, everything is going to be okay. He tells me I am The Great Stayer in the lives of Rachel, my daughter Laura and my wife Jane. I have no idea what He means. I need something from Him far greater than a new name. Or so I think."

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. love and ultimate salvation By Chris Adams This book is difficult to review, as it was written by my uncle about our family. Specifically, it centers around the abduction of him and my mom by their biological mother in the early 70's. The story traces the impact on them, and our entire family, through the years. However, the book's true strength is in finding the gracious hand of God at work the entire time. Sanders clearly connects the actions of my grandfather, and his fight to keep his kids safe, to the actions of our loving heavenly father who never leaves us or forsakes us.My reaction to this book will undoubtedly be different than most. Being about my family, and most pointedly my mom's abduction, it was difficult for me to process. I certainly cried harder reading portions than I have in years. However, the life changing power of God, and the absolute certainty of his restoration, love and ultimate salvation, rang true throughout. I think this book would encourage anyone on their spiritual journey, so I definitely recommend it to all. (I'm also willing to discuss with any friends who read and would like to talk more about it.)

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. An Honest, Engaging Story of Faith and Family! By Dana M. Tofig William Sanders tells his story with brutal honesty, a sharp wit, and a sense of discovery that makes the reader feels like they are sitting with him as he peels back the truth about his own life and his relationship with God. It's at once a difficult, funny and inspiring story. But this is not just William's story--this is our story. It is about listening to God and accepting the name that He has for us. As a father, it challenges me to discover what it is that my children truly need and provide it to them in the prayerful way that the author did with his child. It is a book about confronting the truth of ourselves and trying to recognize the hugeness of God. We learn His perfect message from an imperfect messenger, who is honest about how the struggle between the the Great I Am and the the great Deceiver plays out in his life. For anyone who has been captured in that struggle--and that is all of us--"Staying" is a must read.
