How can teachers do this? Diane Hunt has provided a well-organized, proven set of procedures to ensure learning success for elementary through high school students who struggle to succeed. Based on the educational theories of Multiple Intelligences and Bloom’s Taxonomy, her work employs the validated test taking and immediate feedback strategies to ensure success with high level thinking activities and assessments. No watering down the curriculum.She employs Bloom’s critical thinking categories of analyze, evaluate, and create in every content area on every level. First, she shows how to assess the vocabulary critical to content area success and then how to assess students’ preferred “intelligence” or ways of learning. Given this information, she shows teachers how to create practice assignments and vary them according to the multiple intelligence results. No, it does not mean that a teacher must create seven variations on each assignment. It does mean to focus on one struggling student, design a way to express the target knowledge using his intelligence, create another option, and give all students in the class the choice. Her book is replete with examples and suggestions.As for grading, Hunt distinguishes practice assignments from assessments. Practice assignments are checked for completion while assessments are graded for accuracy. The assessments can be taken multiple times until the student succeeds. Hunt’s work is consistent with the current goal of having all students succeed.

By Lee Lambert I was looking for a way to help my middle school child with tips and ideas to help her. As a home school parent, it is very important to learn and understand how your child learns best. While the book is written for teachers with many students, this was a great tool for me as a home school mom. If I can tap into the way she learns, she will benefit more than being in any classroom. Plus, I can cater all of the subjects to fit her exact learning style. While this is written for teachers, I suggest home school parents pick this up and use the techniques taught in the book. This book is the exact reason why we home school, so we can cater to our child's learning style and help them achieve their ultimate potential.
