Imagine a child being able to avoid a lifetime of debt and money worries, before they've even started earning money... This book has been written for children ages 8 years and up to introduce ideas and principles on money, without actually mentioning money in the main story... Children are in the best position to take control of their financial future, because they have so many years ahead of them, they haven't started earning money yet and they haven't committed themselves to anything financially...yet. That is part of the reason why "Seeds", has the potential to open up new possibilities in a child's future, and not only is this a great story for parents and children to read together, but having one copy of the book in every Primary School would be another great step towards helping the next generation avoid money issues in the future.

Teaching our children about money, working, saving and giving should be foremost in our minds. To be honest, I was slightly disappointed with this book after I read it. I understand the need to make it simple enough for a child to understand, but in doing so, the story itself seemed choppy. I also did not like the names of the different people; Zoniye and Nastalior. They didn't flow very well in my head and I think that simpler names would be better suited for children. So, I was slightly disappointed in the story itself, but then my 8 year old son read the book. After he finished, I asked him what he thought and he said "I loved it!" he also said "I really like at the end how it asks you if you would like to be like Palooko or Greecho. I want to be like Palooko." He talked about how it is important it is to save your `seeds' so you can have enough for your family and so you can share them. It started a discussion between him and me. We talked for quite a while about saving your money, we also discussed getting into debt, and why people choose to do that. He hadn't really thought much about it, but I also shared the basics of investing and how we grow our own `seeds' as a family. He then asked permission to read the book again to substitute the word `seeds' with the word `money.' He thought that was pretty cool. So, while I probably would have given this book a 3 star rating on my own, I added a fourth star because it actually worked! It started a discussion about finances between me and my son. That is what the book is all about. It would be a great way to break the ice on the subject with any child. Thanks go to Heather for this review.

It was a very easy-to-read book, and I got the lesson completely. It is not a good idea to go out and be greedy. The seeds are like money, so don't go out and spend all of your money (seeds) so you don't have enough left to buy food. And don't let people trick you out of your seeds! I think that kids ages 5-7 would really understand this book and would be able to read it on their own (for the most part, at least)."My thoughts: My daughter took the initiative to read the book--I planned on reviewing it. But she decided to read it before I could. The fact that she sat down, read it, understood it, and rated it five stars honestly means something!I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

Palooko and Greecho both receive seeds at the end of their long work day but they both do something different with them. Palooka divides his into thirds - one part that goes to his wife so they can eat, one part in their food cupboard and the last part in his secret jar. He wants to try to plant them.Greecho eats his as soon as he gets them. When outsiders come to their village, the people want the big shiny objects they have in trade for their seeds. Greecho and Palooka both make very different decisions and it affects their lives. "Seeds" is a very unique story that explains to young children how to invest, save money, use it and how debt occurs. A very entertaining story with a good learning tool.
