Andrea Cagan knows how it feels to be a ghost—to hide in the shadows and remain One Sheet Away from the limelight. A professional ghostwriter for many years, she has worked with movie stars, pro athletes, royalty, motivational speakers and rock stars, helping them recall and synthesize their stories onto the page, stage, and screen. Like a literary phantom, she has moved silently behind the scenes to write and produce over a dozen best sellers, all the while, gathering material for her own life story.
In Memoirs of a Ghost, Cagan, a baby boomer, takes her readers on a journey through the significant historical eras of the sixties, the seventies, the eighties—all the way through the turn of the century and up to today. Against the backdrop of fascinating stories of her famous clientele, she weaves her own remarkable life experiences as a professional ballet dancer, a movie star, a survivor of domestic violence, a healing researcher, and, first and foremost, a writer.
A ghost no more, Cagan recounts her own life stories with disarming honesty and authenticity as she steps out of the shadows and onto center stage.

Review "As I read this, I felt so close to Andrea's people, I almost thought they were my relatives, my stories. A poignant illumination of our shared humanity." -Grace Slick, lead singer Jefferson Airplane"It takes accumulated layers of experience -- and accumulated layers of wisdom -- to make up a wonderful life. Andrea Cagan is a woman who has not only lived, but lived passionately and authentically. Her story both enriches and inspires."-Marianne Williamson, #1 best selling author"Above all I am deeply moved by Andrea's honesty. Her intentions on finding, resolving, and acknowledging the truth of herself are so movingly written and so compelling in its revelations - a template for silenced women."-Oscar winner, Olympia Dukakis"Andrea Cagan has written a book that encompasses the entire range of female emotions. It's all here: touching, enraged, lonely, courageous, and loving. She goes off on tangents which are extremely heartfelt... follow her. The beauty is in her complex complications... drink it up! She writes "just like a woman... yes she does."-John Densmore, Drummer, The Doors"A memoir from the shadows that's just as fascinating as those that inhabit the spotlight. The self-confidence and discipline that Cagan learned in ballet helped her in many of her subsequent challenges and prepared her for the unconventional life she would ultimately lead... She explores broad topics, such as religion and aging, offering numerous anecdotes and relating hard lessons she's learned. In the closing pages, Cagan wonders whether she's "done enough" to pen an interesting memoir. Simply put: she has."-Kirkus Reviews

By Cristina Pestana I have read several books penned by Andrea Cagan, some have given her credit but on others, she was an invisible ghost -- but never to me! Andreas writing is identifiable by her empathy, humor, simplicity and pathos. In her new memoir, we get it all and more! Here she cancan come out of the shadows of being a bestselling ghostwriter and her own shadow, to reveal her self reflective story, that reader can easily relate to, with insight, humor, kindness and fearlessness! If you're a female baby boomer, Andrea's story is our story--but she had the courage to write the words. And if you've summered in New England, her simple description of the rocking chairs on Aunt Ruth's porch is enough to reel you in. Don't miss this book-- it's a good catch and very very fresh!

NYT bestselling author Andrea Cagan stepped out from behind the curtain of ghostwriting (for celebrities, powerful executives, royalty) to write her own story and it’s the best book she’s written so far. Funny, warm, engaging, she opens her heart and takes us deep into the worlds she’s known. From her young disciplined life as a ballet dancer traveling the world to the swinging sixties in Hollywood where she starred in movies and worked with spiritual gurus, to her very personal experiences with the famed and feted (you’ll get a rare picture of what they’re really like), to living among the “Plastoids” in L.A. today, Cagan’s descriptions makes you feel as though you were there right beside her and you’re moved to cheer her on.Each chapter is a world unto itself and the book flows seamlessly while leaving the reader anticipating what comes next. As extraordinary as her life has been before and during her career as a ghostwriter, the subjects are ones that everyone can relate to: falling in love, bad boyfriends, divorce, family, loss... it’s as poignant as it is funny. One of the great takeaways is how she managed to navigate the highs and lows, life pressures, and unexpected turns to find peace while continuing to embrace life with spirit and vitality. Each time I picked up the book I felt like I was visiting with my closest friend; one who’s caring, compassionate, smart, and insightful, and who makes you laugh when you least expect it. There’s a reason she’s a bestselling author --her writing is beautiful. I've already sent copies to friends as gifts.

From ballerina to writer - she tells all, the good and the bad, She writes honestly of her life in transition as she travels the world as a ballerina, and again as she travels as a writer. She does not always agree to write for some people when she finds them uncooperative or perhaps just too difficult to work with. When a book is finished she is seldom acknowledged as co-writer except somewhere in back pages and small print. Although professionally the financial rewards were more than adequate, she always longed to have a voice and write her own story. This is it. She is a gutsy lady and tells it as it was.
