The first person narrative used by Monty gives his account an on the ground realism. There are some entertaining chase stories. Monty played cornerback in college and had to run a few miscreants down literally and figuratively. All residents of California have had their run ins with the CHP so it is enlightening to hear an unvarnished voice from behind the badge. There is no moralizing here. Monty did his job well; if you were breaking the law you got a ticket unless it was Christmas and he felt like giving you a gift.
