By Country Cow Girl Thank you so much for opening your life, and your heart to the world; many people would not have shared this with anyone. I seldom share my story. As the daughter of a woman with Schizophrenia this was an eye opener, your comments that your husband tried to make you look crazy when his bipolar was the problem, really hit home, as my mother and sisters said the same about me. Since I grew up with this, I didn't realize what was truly wrong with her until shortly before her death. Lori's comments about seeing glimpses of the man she loved coming and going reminded me of her last years; if she knew I was coming to see her I saw a kind gentle woman. My aunt frequently commented that she didn't know who that woman was when she visited my mother unannounced, which I found the same to be true, and since I didn't realize the connection between her knowing I was coming or not, I saw that woman I didn't know, a lot, and she was not a nice person. After my mother's death, my aunt frequently said, "I miss my sister, but I don't miss that woman who died." Your comments that the people who betray you will be the ones closest to you also hit home as I thought people knew me better than the lies that were told about me. No so. While God was truly the reason I have been able to heal from the damage of this situation, that and support from my husband, children, my aunt, a few cousins, a sister in Christ, and the foundation built under me by father, my sisters have not. To this day they believe that I was the problem, but our mother always knew when they were coming as they lived several hours away so they seldom saw that "other woman" and don't believe she existed. While I can easily forgive them their ignorance, its harder to forgive their repeated cruelty and untrue accusations, but that too has come with God's help. So much of Lori's story shows that in spite of our faith in God, we're only human and can only handle so much, especially if we don't rely on God. Being a Christian does not mean that we do not sin, but that our sin is covered by the blood of Jesus. God uses these things that Lori and I experienced to grow our faith, our trust in Him and to draw us closer to HIm. He works all things for the good, even a train wreck such as Lori and Donnie went through. When we are weakest, that is when God is strongest. When we pray, His way, His will, His time, He always answers our prayers. The toughest thing to do sometimes is let go and let God. We also discount the evil one and do not believe that he has the power he does, and we do not claim the protection of our Lord and Savior over him as we should. Your trials may seem small once you see what Lori and Donnie went through, I know mine did.

I enjoyed reading about people in small town Iowa.Soda is called "pop" I still say pop and just get blank looks. It was great to see the term in print! It was great to read about mental illness, and makes me wonder about myself. You will be asking yourself questions after you read it.

More important than that is that I was amazed at the strength and courage Lori faced and it was extremely helpful to know that her faith got her through. It was a very inspiring read.
