Willetts Jr. This is a little gem of a monograph about Thomas Jefferson and the Declaration of Independence. Like all of Joseph Ellis's works, this is well-researched, informative, and highly readable. The author shows us Jefferson's sources of inspiration, his unique views of government and society, his writing strengths, and his weaknesses. This is history at its best.

Not an easy document to write or maybe not the best person to draft it whose conflict of interest meant a higher risk of outright rejection. But it was accepted despite its flawed crafter, thankfully.
